Warning: Ridiculously self indulgent posts within.

So, i've recently built up my collection of make up and my make up bag is looking pretty good at the moment.

What exactly do you use on a regular basis (i.e what are your make up bag regulars)? Would you recommend any particular product or do you buy it for its price/other reasons? Do you have any hints or tricks for applying make up that could help someone? This can be any aspect of make up (foundation/eyeshadow/eyeliner/blush/lipstick-gloss-stain/primer etc as well as cleansers, moisturisers and so on).

----------------------

What exactly do you use on a regular basis (i.e what are your make up bag regulars)?

My current selection is as follows:
Smashbox Photo finish primer. Leaves my skin very soft and ready for the foundation, can't really fault it, the price is a bit steep but it does last a long time. I also got a free sample of the luminizing version of their primer which looks lovely along the top of cheekbones and under the jawline/around the neck, but I wouldn't use that all over your face, its a bit too shiny and unnatural looking for all over coverage.

Smashbox studio skin foundation. Goes on best using your fingertips, I find it quite hit and miss though...? It has excellent reviews everywhere and I suppose it looks fine in photos which is good, but when I put it on, sometimes it can look amazing and smooth and blend perfectly, other times it won't take to my face at all and will just streak and cling to any dry spots. This is most likely because I have combination skin and usually happens if I cleanse and don't moisturise before putting on my make up and primer - however if you don't want to spend a lot on primer and moisturiser then I would avoid this foundation. The skin needs that extra attention before putting it on to make it look good. When you do have time to apply make up lovingly this foundation is highly recommendable though.

Rimmel powder blush in coral rose. Nice colour on pale skin, not much more to say about this. I don't have much experience with blush so if any of you have tips i'd be happy to hear them.

Vichy anti-blemish concealer stick. This is fairly new to me too but I already love it. The colour is a bit orangey and there's only one colour so if you're reeeeally pale I can't say i'd recommend it. Otherwise, this is awesome! It claims to not only conceal, but also dry out spots so they disappear over time and it genuinely does just that. I've had one or two spots that haven't seen the light of day because I put this on and they were gone by the next day. My spots like to stick around for a while so i'm fairly sure the concealer is doing its job. Ace!

Urban Decay Naked Pallet 2. I've only recently just got this and i'm amazed by it! The colours just blend so well together and stay on all day, they look beautiful on (but they definitely suit 'cool' shaded skin as opposed to 'warm'!), the pallet is pricey but it really does look amazing. The double ended brush is lovely and the smokey brown colours look great under the eye as well as in the crease of the eye. If you need a neutral toned eyeshadow pallet this should definitely be on your list. The paler colours like foxy and bootycall look gorgeous on the inside of the eye too.

Rimmel Liquid Liner. I've used this since I started using make up and its never let me down. Cheap too compared to the rest of the kit!

Barry M double ended silver and black kohl eyeliner. This was a Christmas gift for me but I love it, the black is chunky and perfect for creating a smokey eye look (not good for strong water-lineage though) and the silver again looks lovely on the inside of the eye for a night-time look. Stays on all day.

Rimmel black kohl eyeliner. Another one of the things i've always used - it just works really well.

L'Oreal Volume Million Mascara. This is another product that works quite well, separates all my lashes and makes them appear longer, can't complain. However don't take my word for this one, my lashes are naturally very long, thick, black and curly so this does well to enhance that but might not be good for shorter/thinner lashes.

Smashbox Photo-Set pressed powder. Again, works a treat for setting your make up when you've finished applying everything. Matte but not cake-y, helps to even out face tone. Would recommend, especially to paler faces.

Urban Decay All-Nighter setting spray Claims to 'set' your make up on all day through blood, sweat and tears. Ahem. You spray four spritzes all over your face after applying all your make up and that's it, done. It works. Seriously! My face looked all dewy fresh and lovely 8 hours after applying with no touch ups, I would definitely recommend this for nights out when you don't want to be running to the bathroom every half hour because you're sweating and afraid of your make up melting off!

I used to be a bit advocator of using a foundation sponge but after I started using my fingers I realized how annoying sponges were. I'd like to try a foundation brush at some point but can't justify it just yet.
I don't really use any lip stuff tbh, sometimes i'll wear lipstick and the naked pallet came with this nice gloss that plumps and cools lips but I usually feel too self conscious for lip attention. If anything i'd like to try some slightly rosier/natural lip colours so if anyone has any suggestions for those i'm interested.

Finally, my secret weapon: After moisturising, I put Bio-oil around my nose, cheeks and t-zone. My skin is combination and my nose area can sometimes get quite rough. Bio-oil is quite simply, AMAZING. Seriously, try it on your face if you can before putting on your make up and perhaps its just me, but my face looks so much smoother, softer and my primer/foundation glides on that little bit easier. My foundation often streaks around my t-zone but when i apply bio-oil first it goes on perfectly. Give it a try!

sooooo girlies of EC, what are your make up habits, loves, hates, tips, tricks, hints, weapons etc?

Geez, is that a daily routine?

I don't wear all of that every single day  Bit overkill really. That's just stuff that I use very regularly, not necessarily all at once. In fact even if preparing for a party or night out I wouldn't wear all of that, you don't need three types of eyeliner but they can be used to create different looks for different days, so they're used regularly but separately. If i'm staying in all day I won't wear make up. However most of it is just normal make up - foundation(or tinted moisturiser), eyeliner, mascara and powder are really the basics.
If i'm just going to work I usually just put foundation, a layer of eyeliner on my top lash line, blush and powder on. Putting all that on every day would 1) make me look like a clown and 2) take farrrr too long.

It also depends on what exactly you're using the make up for, for example I use the foundation and concealer because my face is prone to red patches so it isn't used to look entirely different, just to even out the skin tone so its the same as the rest of my face. The setting spray doesn't add anything on top of the make up, just keeps whatevers there from fading so you don't have to add more later on in the day like most people do.

ill also add that just because it looks like a lot doesn't mean you're wearing each thing like war paint. you might only use a tiny bit of each thing on an individual part of your face, it isn't like each thing is another layer on your whole face. I might just use the tiniest bit of eyeshadow to get a nice effect some days.

edit: however things like cleansing, moisturising after cleansing and adding bio-oil are something I do every day to keep my skin healthy, even if it does take a bit longer.

I just thought of another thing - one thing I love are oil blotting sheets. If you have oily patches on your skin you certainly don't want to be piling more make up on top of them, I use Boots own brand blotting paper, you just tear off a little sheet, dab it on the shiny spots and it soaks up the oil so you don't have to add more powder and you avoid looking cakey.

@Xx.cKihmy.KiLLer.xX : Jeez, 4 hours, you can't be serious?! And four different types of mascara? That's some serious overkill haha. That practically takes up your entire day, totally not worth it :P

I used to be one of those girls who had copious amounts of make up, six large sized bags and like a huge dresser dedicated to brushes and products. Eventually I figured that spending so much on something that will just fade in a day or so seemed pretty pointless. So now with that mentality I really don't buy much make up, I'm more of a practical make up buyer now. I only have two small essential bags and a large bag dedicated to all my nail polish and lipsticks.

Any way, products I (currently) use every day are;

Clarins Moisturiser pretty much the one moisturiser I live by. It's a must have for smooth and glowy skin. It gives you that healthy sheen and I've not had an allergic reaction to it once.

elf all-over cover stick basically a concealer, and it's hands down absolutely fantastic. It's very smooth and creamy, glides on your skin perfectly and you can blend it in with your fingers or a brush. It conceals veins, red areas, blemishes and oily skin. The only down side is that it is just thumb sized and it's like a roll on, which makes it hard to apply due to the packaging. But considering I have sensitive skin, I'm allergic to most make up products and my skin is an awkward yellow which is definitely hard to find products that will match - this is fantastic. You can't even tell you have it on. I would definitely recommend it.

Bourjois mineral radiance bronzer is fantastic. Gives you that subtle glow that livens your skin up. I have to say, I have absolutely no issues with this product. It applies perfectly with a blusher brush, they included an applicator but I don't like using sponges, and you can always have it subtle or a very glowy bronze.

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner it's great, easy to apply with an eye liner brush and it doesn't rub off or smudge. It's genuinely the best and easiest way to apply eyeliner.

Maybelline great last mascara and Bourjois Mascara Volume Glamour are the two mascaras that do not smudge, irritate my skin or clump your lashes.

Revlon Just Bitten lip stain I have nearly all of them, but I tend to use Gothic, Passion, Dawn and Twilight on a regular basis, depending on the look. These are great, they don't fade and they stay on almost all day. Of course you occasionally have to re-apply the stain, but that's only after a good few hours. I'd definitely recommend it. The one downside for this product is that it seems to apply better only when you have a base on your lips first.

Foundation and concealers;

Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturising Foundation - I love this. I can't say enough about it. It's so perfect and the way it just glides on to your skin is fantastic. I just don't like the applicator for this, too messy, and it's expensive.
Bourjois healthy mix foundation - Gives you a gorgeous glow, makes your skin smooth and non cakey.
Revlon photo ready foundation - This is great, it looks great in pictures and doesn't cake or rub off - my only negative is that they don't have a colour that matches my skin tone. It's very limited in their range, it's either too dark or too light for me.
Revlon stay perfect concealer - Same as above, it's fantastic, brightens your skin and gives you a fresher look - only downside was that it dries up on my skin.

A foundation that I absolutely love at the moment is the elf studio foundation, it's perfect for my skin tone and it just makes my skin look great. It's really smooth, doesn't cake and you can't tell I'm wearing it. It looks fantastic. My only negative is that it fades after three to four hours, which is something that has never happened to me before. Foundation usually lasts all day for me, so I never use primers. I may have to start with this foundation though. You can also use the studio powder with this, which I think is okay, it gives you more of a matte finish.

Lips/eyeliner/blush/brushes;

Revlon, MAC, Barry M, Bourjois, NARS lipsticks I recommend a heck of a lot. They're ridiculously fantastic. I have this gorgeous pastel pink lipstick from Revlon and I pretty much use it all the time. Although at the moment I'm more into lip stains, yet I can't seem to find the perfect shade of red lip stick or stain which is super annoying.

There's the Revlon kohl eyeliner in black and brown which I think are fantastic, they don't affect my eyes or irritate them at all.

I tend to navigate towards coral blushes and bronzers more often than not, MAC is great for blushers.

I genuinely think that foundation brushes are a must have. When you use your fingers, you rub it into your skin, and that just irritates your skin, and your rubbing the product into your pores. Which isn't great. They help you apply foundation with an even coverage and make your skin flawless. Bobbi Brown, MAC and elf are what I typically go for. The Shiseido foundation brush is a God send. It's just the most easiest applicator ever. I like the mineral powder kabuki brush by elf.

I'm happy to be a male. D:

I read the books too, you know. And I wanted to choose Acheron but it was already taken, so I re-named myself Acheron Parthenopaeus. Figuring it was too long, I messaged Jess and asked her to shorten it for me, so she put the period beside it. So now it's Acheron.

I Don't wear that much make up.
For my face I use Rimmel's wake me up foundation, for concealer I use collection 2000's lasting perfection in fair (it's an amazing concealer and it's really inexpensive), my powder is just a Rimmel clear complextion pressed powder. For blusher I use a Mac mineralise blusher in dainty. Eyes I use a kohl eyeliner pencil that I've had years and my mascara is Rimmel scandalise (or something like that). My lips go bare most of the time but I do wear a red mac lipstick (ruby woo)

Sounds like a lot lol

WAIT FOR IT

Dior Nude Foundation - it costs roughly £30 a bottle.
Estee Lauder Gel Eyeliner - costs roughly £20 for a small 'tub'.

I don't wear mascara or anything else, I'm actually very good with makeup.

I love lip stains, and I believe I have gothic and passion (they're the reddish ones aren't they?), although I did quite like a berry toned one that was out. Unfortunately, they dry out so, so quickly in the tube and it's such a waste of time. A more economical approach for me has to be apply lipstick heavily, blot it off and apply a VERY thin layer the second time, massaging the lipstick into your lips. It gives a really, really good stain. If you're looking for a dark red one, I'll have to get the name of my Armani lipstick, because tbh, it's stunning.

Yep, they're fab. I'm not sure about the more nude and pastel colours, I have yet to try them. But I'm hesitant, wouldn't they just look strange?

How did yours dry out? I've had mine for a good couple of months, and the colours are still fresh. They have two caps on them, one clear/transparent which keeps them moisturised. I've found that applying a light base of lipstick(in a nude colour) or a bit of foundation on your lips, before lipstick, always creates the best look for a clear and smooth look. It seems to help the lip stains last longer.

I've not tried benefit's lip stain, although I really want to. I'm petrified of doing so though, I tried one of their products, merely because it was lemon scented, and I developed an allergic reaction. Baw.

I want a fire red lipstick colour, something velvety and just slightly pale. Having trouble finding the perfect shade though. :/

I don't personally like pastel or nude colours, I think even a hint of colour is much more flattering.

I have no idea how they dried out :( it was very upsetting. It's happened to basically every lip stain I've tried though, lol.

Benetint? Meh. It's not that great. A little too watery (at least for me) and it stains sometimes in weird patches, not evenly. Might just be me though.

Chanel and Armani have always been best for red to me.

I'm the same, but I'm so tempted to just try it out. :3

That's definitely a mystery, haha. I think you may have left them uncapped for a while or not sealed properly, that's the only thing I can think of going wrong.

Ah, I'll have to give it a miss then. But I'll definitely have to look into Chanel or Armani's lipsticks then.

Mascara and when I go out to somewhere nice, some eye shadow. That's about it.

I do not like putting foundation and all that kind of nasty crap.
