Harkot shook his head chuckling lightly then sauntered under the bus station. "Oh... I think it has something to do with me winning the tournaments twice...." He mused slightly to himself. As they watched the people walk by in the rain and the few cars go by. It was nice to actually talk to someone.
Kit was knocked to the side when Jack grabbed Kyle and her flowers and the candies flew from her grip. The box of candies flew into a drainage pipe and the flowers slid under Jacks feet and were crushed when he stepped on them. Of coursework hadn't meant to but Kyle didn't know that. Tears welled up in Kit's eyes but she quickly brushed them off and started to pick herself up then she saw the two of them start to fight. "No!" She said firmly, but it didn't make a difference.

The scent of wild flowers filled Tim's nose, and, as he handed back the hair piece, he couldn't help staring into Jess's eyes. It was strange. He felt as though he was looking at a flower.
"You're so talented," he said, something he had never thought of another human before now. "Can I see more of them?"
Gem rolled his eyes, nauseated just watching them. "I'm going to go turn the stove off so the kitchen doesn't set on fire," he grumbled. "It's not like that creep will remember any time soon. All it wants is to harass Jess. I hope she kicks him soon." He hopped into the kitchen, leaving poor Lucia to watch Tim and Jess.
"What?" Aries whispered, his cheerful air vanishing. He stared at Harkot, unsure whether he was telling the truth or not.
"You've been there?" he asked, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt. "What's it like? How did you survive?...I...I'm sorry..." he trailed off, attempting to calm himself. "You don't have to answer."
Jack didn't notice the flowers being trampled beneath his feet, or the ruined candies, or Kit's shouts for them to stop. All he could see was Kyle, and a red fog clouding his vision.
He was winded from the blow to the chest, and he tasted blood when Kyle continued to kick him while he was down. The taunting just made him angrier. He tripped Kyle and pinned him to the ground, punching him over and over, determined not to lose the advantage he had somehow gained.
"I've killed people stronger than you!" he growled at him, ready to strike at his face for the first time.
But before he could, he heard the sound of a car pulling up nearby, and he gasped, trying to scramble to his feet.

Harkot looked at Aries a little confused, "you havnt heard of me?" Harkot asked bewildered. "Harkot Skelling! The walking dead man! The man who's killed a dozen men. The orphaned killer?...." He looked at the blank face tht Aries gave him and sighed, "Wow... I guess you really haven't heard of me..." He sat kind of astonished.
Kit saw the car and ran to Kyle grabbing his arm and began pulling him hard away from Jack. "Ky!! Come!" She said her tone very urgent and scared. As she tugged him away he finally noticed the car and snapped to his sences.

"Kit, I am so sorry. I ... I just couldn't let him get away with threatening and intimidating you" Kyle said not much above a whisper his throat sore. He pulled Kit to the ground with him and wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead "Its okay, we'll be okay" he repeated for a while, not sure who he was trying to convince Kit or himself.

Tim stared around the room for a moment, feeling as though he had been transported to the garden of his dreams. Everything was perfect; the scents, the intricate decorations...It took him about five seconds to snap out of his mesmerized state, and, completely forgetting Jess's words, he began to flit around the room, trying to look at everything at once.
"Is this what I think it is?" he said excitedly. "It's so rare!...Oh my...Look at the ivy! How did you make this bed frame? What I would give to have a room like this! You really made it all? I didn't think people were good for anything, but you've proved me wrong...This outclasses everything I've ever seen...And I've seen a lot of gardens with my job..."
Gem stirred the stew, leaning on one crutch with the other hand. He had to admit that it smelled a lot nicer than what they would have been eating otherwise. And the kitchen was spotless.
He looked back at Lucia when she entered the kitchen. "We might as well eat it," he muttered, before returning his attention to the stew.
He hesitated for a moment, then closed his eyes. "Lucia?" he asked cautiously. "Tomorrow, I want to see the parade. That's ok, right? You always get to go, so it's only fair."
Aries just shook his head as Harkot spoke, staring in slight admiration.
"So..." he began slowly. "What is it like? Do you think there's any way to get someone out of the tournament without them having to fight?" He knew this was a stupid question, but it was one that interested him greatly. He glanced over at the drain again, sighing as he realized the rain had probably washed away the necklace.
Jack glared after the two of them as they ran away, wiping blood from the side of his mouth. He could see the officials stepping out of the car, and the only consolation he had was that they had seen Kyle and Kit's faces as well. He could hide, but he hoped they could not.
He began to run, resisting the temptation to look back. He knew all the side streets off by heart, and knew it would be hard for them to follow. It would be ok, he told himself. It had to be. He couldn't go back to that tournament. He couldn't face killing one more person, or knowing he was likely to be killed.

Harkot sighed and shook his head, he knew what Aries ment and unfortunately it was impossible. As the rain slowly began to let up Harkot stood and extended his had to Aries to shake then thought of something. "Aries as it is the night before our fate is decided for us and we both seem to not have anywhere to be would you like to come to my flat for dinner and a bottle of wine?" He smiled brightly as Aries stood and thought about the proposal.
Katana stood in the kitchen listening to everything in the next room. "Is everything ok in there?..." He called not wanting to walk in and interrupt them.
Kit lay in Kyle's armed shaking slightly, unknown to him she had actually been scared by him for a few moments. She nodded and looked up at him tears still brimming her big brown eyes.

Kyle was about to say something else when he heard Katana shout from the Kitchen. "It's fine, don't worry." he called back. Kyle hugged her close, he could feel Kit shaking slightly in his arms. He sighed, all he'd wanted to do was protect her, and he hadn't done it the right way. Someone had seen them, he just hoped that it wouldn't be noticed in the parade tomorrow. Panic ran through his mind of all the awful things he'd seen happen in the arena when people from the parade didn't meet the standards. Kyle saw the tears in Kits eyes and he felt his heart sink. "Kit... I ... I'm so sorry. Please don't cry" he whispered a needful tone in his voice and kissed her hard on the lips, putting all of his being into the kiss, tears slipping down his own cheeks as he did so.

Tim walked up to the picture Jess had been looking at, and tilted his head to the side. "She reminds me of a daffodil," he commented. "So bright, and sunny...But there's also a bit of rose in her, like you." He smiled and turned back to Jess. "Your mother? I only heard her voice over the phone. I didn't imagine she'd look like a flower."
Aries took Harkot's hand and stood, contemplating his options. On one hand, he could make some sort of excuse, and spend the evening searching the drain for a necklace that was probably long gone, getting soaked to the bone, and possibly arrested. Or on the other hand, he could go with Harkot and get drunk.
"Maybe if we drink enough, we'll figure out a way to help those in the tournament," he said cheerfully, following Harkot to his flat. "I've decided we're going to be safe tomorrow, by the way."
Gem sighed when Lucia didn't answer him. He grabbed some plates from the cupboard and poured out four servings of the stew, handing Lucia hers without a word.
But as he passed her, using just one crutch as he held his own bowl, he said quietly and firmly. "We're going to the parade as a family, for once. And we're all coming back."
When he made it to the dining table, he called back to her. "You can call those two idiots down to get theirs."

Lucia smiled and sighed then put some food on her plate and said, "Maybe we could somehow hide your crutches?...." She smiled to herself then walked out to the dining room put down her food and then walked slowly to the bottom of the stairs and shouted up for Tim and Jess to come down to eat.
Kit was shocked when Kyle kissed her but couldn't help kiss him back, she had wanted to kiss him sence they were children but never imagined it would be like this. Suddenly she heard footsteps and then Katana's nervous voice as he saw them on the floor kissing.
"AHH ahI think I'll go to sleep now..! Yeah... Yeah! Uhhh night...!" She giggled as she looked up and saw his red face.
Jess's heart sank when Tim said he had talked to her mother on the phone then she shook her head. She slowly pointed a shaky slender finger at the photo saying, "That is my mother. The woman you spoke with is Lucia's mother, my stepmother. Gem and Lucia are my adopted siblings... M-my mothers dead...."
She looked down a memory flashing through her head of her mothers dead body laying on the floor in front of her. Jess shook and quickly stood up and went over to the bird cage looking at the birds as they flew around the cage. Suddenly she jumped when she felt Tim's hand on her shoulder.

Gem gave Lucia an offended look, but he knew she was right. Instead of arguing, he just nodded in resignation. "I won't use them," he decided. "Then they won't have a reason to murder any of us."
Tim put his hand on Jess's shoulder, a little unsure whether it was the right gesture to make. "That's why," he said quietly. "So that's why you look so much better than them." He smiled at her, feeling a little out of his comfort zone.
From downstairs, he could hear her sister calling up to them, but he felt making sure Jess was ok was more important than food right now. When a flower was looking under the weather, he always made it his priority to take care of them until they were in full bloom once again. "I'm sorry if I upset you. Do you want to go down for some stew, or would you like me to bring it up here for you?"

As she heard Lucia's voice she breaths in deeply and put on a fake smile, one she bore all to well and gestured toward the door. "Shall we?" She said softly.

Tim smiled back, following Jess downstairs. "It's ok," he assured her. "We don't have to worry. A flower like you could never be chosen, and I'll carry a four leaved clover for good luck."
When they reached the dining room, Tim drifted into the kitchen and returned a moment later with their food. He could sense Gem glaring at him all throughout the meal, but he didn't really care. He had decided he liked Jess, almost as much as he liked plants, and that meant he would probably have to get used to being around her siblings.
When they finished the meal, Tim offered to wash up before heading home.

The next morning Jess and Lucia got up at the same time and got ready and then went down to wake Gem up and make sure he was ready as well. When the got to his room he was waiting for them, and he looked wonderful. Jess smiled and proudly held out a black sophisticated looking walking stick with roses carved onto it. Then she places a headband with white roses around Lucia's hea and then a black one with black roses and big thorns on her own head and with that they set out for the middle of town.
Harkot awoke with a start and quickly ran out into the bathroom, not noticing Aries was asleep on the couchtgen suddenly his head popes out of the bathroom door his log hair halfway into a high ponytail.
"Uhh... W-wake up?!" He called to Aries and the young man shook awake with a start.
Kit woke up with the sun before the boys, and by the time they had woken up she had made breakfast for them and was almost ready to leave, she just had to lace up her dress the rest of the way.

Miyuki woke up that morning in the empty house, she always dreaded this day, even though it was highly unlikely she'd be picked out in the parade, it still made her nervous. She'd watched a few of her closest friends and family end up in the tournament for no real fair reason. She pulled out her Coral Blue Parade dress, and put it on the side. She went into her en-suite bathroom and showered, brushed her teeth and put her hair in a long fish-tail plait around the side and then down to the bottom, her long hair finishing mid-waist. Miyuki then meandered into her bedroom, towel dried herself and then pulled on her dress which finished just slightly above her knees. She pulled on her knee high long socks which had a blue bow at the top of each, and her lace-up blue heeled boots. She looked at herself in the long mirror and smiled. Then made quick work of applying foundation, lipstick and gloss, mascara and eyeliner and a shimmery blue powder than made her eyes shine when she blinked. A small amount of orange-pink blush to give her cheeks some colour. She was proud of how good she looked. She got her silk bag and put in her keys and purse, then left the house locking the door behind her and heading for the parade.
Wednesday had helped her mom get ready before she had gotten herself ready, even though her dress wasn't as traditional as the ones most of the other females wore, she enjoyed it. She did her make up to resemble her dress, with green eyeshadow, but a black smokey eye effect with mascara and eyeliner and then an Ivy green lipstick. She loved how she got to dress up on parade day, she put on her fishnet tights, and silver ballroom-style heels, and in her small bag put her keys and purse. Her, her mom and baby brother made their way to the town for the parade, she held her head high and tried to keep a sweet smile on her face, this could make or break her family.
Kyle woke up, and it was later than he usually woke up, it had taken him a while to get to sleep in all honesty he'd been thinking of the events that day. He got up and gave Katana a shout, because he was still sleeping, Kyle grabbed his parade clothes and darted into the bathroom, hoping no one had seen him. He cleaned his face and tried to comb his hair, and then put on his suit and shiny black shoes and made his way into the kitchen where he could smell Kit's breakfast cooking. He looked at her in the dress and blushed a little. "Kit, you look beautiful" then realized it wasn't fully laced up. " Would you like some help lacing up?" he asked softly, barely above a whisper.

Kit blushed and nodded and turned her back toward Kyle then when he finished she turned and smiled at Kyle then she noticed his bruises and sighed shaking her head. She ran and grabbed her makeup and began covering up the bruises.

Gem hadn't shown anyone his parade clothes, in case they refused to let him go. He had got them from a cute little shop in the lower class part of town, and to him they couldn't have been more perfect.
He looked up when his sister's entered, and his eyes immediately fell on the walking stick. It was all he could do to resist hugging Jess. The stick was amazing, and easy to use. He muttered a small thank you as they left the house, and, for the first time, felt completely safe walking down the street.
Once they reached the town centre, he stood between Jess and Lucia to avoid the bustling crowd.
Aries sat up quickly, his hair sticking out at all angles as he glanced around the unfamiliar room. "Where...?" he began to ask, a slight panicked tone to his voice. But then he remembered everything, and calmed somewhat.
"Damn," he muttered. "I don't have anything to wear..." He got to his feet and examined his clothes thoughtfully. There had to be a way to transform them. "Hey, can I borrow this hat to keep my hair down?" he called to Harkot.
There was no point trying to avoid the parade, Jack thought as he made his way into the town centre, trying to make his clothes look as respectable as possible since he had been unable to get them fixed.
As he was adjusting the cuff on his left sleeve, he almost collided with an Upper Class girl clad in a beautiful coral blue dress.
"Sorry," he muttered distractedly, stepping around her. He looked back at her and a small, almost kind smile flickered across his face. "If you're not safe, I don't know who is," he commented.

Miyuki hadn't seen the other person until they'd almost collided, thankful for the near miss. Miyuki blushed at his comment "Sorry for not seeing you just then, but thank you, I hope you stay safe sir" she replied, although by looking at his almost threadbare clothes she knew he didn't stand much chance and felt sorry for him. "If you are alone, you can always walk with me through the parade?" She said softly "I'm Miyuki" she added introducing herself.

Jack turned to walk away, but froze when Miyuki offered to let him walk with her. He turned back, and this time his smile really was kind. "Walking with the imperfect is just as dangerous as being imperfect yourself," he pointed out, not bothering to introduce himself.
It was true that before now, he had felt a certain satisfaction every time he watched members of the Upper Class being dragged from the crowd, pleading for their lives. It showed them they weren't as perfect as they thought, and finally some misfortune would come their way for a change, but looking at this girl, he just couldn't wish that fate on her. And he couldn't put her in danger just to make himself look better. He had already accepted that this was probably his last parade, anyway, after what had happened the day before.
