So what does music mean to you?

What about music speaks to you if it does?

What emotions/feelings do you get from a particular song (If so whats the song and why does it mean so much to you?) , artist, lyrics or is it just the rhythm/beat that attracts you?

Basically what are your views on music? :)

I don't know what I'd be without music... To me it's like one of the essential things of life. If I had to choose between going 3 days without eating or 3 days without music, I think I'd choose not to eat. I take music sort of personally, people can make fun of me and I try not to let it get to me, but I get defensive over my favourite bands/songs.
I think music is important because it helps us express our feelings and it reflects our personality. It helps us connect to each other through our similarities and it helps us define our uniqueness. Music can keep us company on the lonely nights when it feels like no one else could understand, it can express our love in ways that just words alone simply can't do, it can comfort us when we have lost someone we feel like we can't go on without, and it gives us something to dance to on the best days of our lives that we wish would never end. All-in-all, to me, music is a reflection of who we are and how we feel on the inside.
There are a few songs I like just because of the beat or sound of the music, but the most important part of a song to me is the lyrics. My favourite lyrics are deep, a bit dark, and are something that I can relate to. I tend to prefer songs about heartbreak over love songs, and songs about depression rather than about partying or something.
The style of the music isn't as important to me as the lyrics are, but it's still important. Depending on my mood, I like something that's loud, fun to listen to, and gets my adrenalin pumping and helps me de-stress, or if I'm sad I prefer music which is slower, moving, and has really deep lyrics.
Most of my favourite bands are different types of metal (anything from core to symphonic to Nü) and hard rock.
Some examples of some of my favourite songs which have kick-ass music and lyrics that have a lot of meaning to me are: The Sadness Will Never End by Bring Me The Horizon, Chalk Outline by Three Days Grace, Scars by Papa Roach, Shot In The Dark by Within Temptation, Tourniquet by Evanescence, Never Too Late by Three Days Grace, Hospital For Souls by Bring Me The Horizon, Open Wounds by Skillet, Resurrect the Sun by Black Veil Brides, Vices by Memphis May Fire, Can You Feel My Heart by Bring Me The Horizon, and way too many others to name...
I love writing, and one of my favourite things to write is lyrics, it helps me share who I am on a level I normally would be too shy to express, and it helps me express all my feelings and points of view, which in turn helps others connect to my lyrics on a deeper level. I love it when someone says that they relate to something that I wrote, especially if it helps to encourage them and feel less alone in life. And I think that's what I love about the lyrics to songs I love too.

So what does music mean to you?

Well, I suppose it depends on what you're really asking here. Do you mean what does the word mean, or an aspect of it. What do you think of when you hear the word music? Because in my eyes, people when you say music, seem to only focus on music production. But, there is so much more to music that people don't seem to see. It's not just about your favourite band or artist. Not about what's hot or not in a sense. It's about the different ways, in which instruments or sounds are used to create something else. To me, music, is something that is found everywhere. Is not the song of a bird, the same as that as the melodic harmony that can emanate from a guitar?. Music simply depends on how you perceive things. I mean, if you see that music is solely what is in the charts or album sales, then really... ask yourself, do you even know what music is?. I like music in all different forms, and how simple sounds can come together to make something completely different from what you started with. Even if you only look at music production, there is still more than face value. I mean, for instance, say you like "such band" and the songs they make, but not another band and the songs they make... how can you say you love music? you don't love music, not as a whole, you only love the parts that you think are better than another part. Now, I used to be one of those kids, who would kick and scream and argue till I was too tired to argue anymore, about well.. bands/artists and how they were better than other bands or artists. But now, I've grown up and realized, you can't love music until you've experienced it all. And, of course, it would be impossible to experience every type of music there is, but I have widened my bases quite a bit. I used to be a die hard Bring Me The Horizon, Suicide Silence, Black Veil Brides sort of thing, fan. Deathcore,/screamo was the only thing I would listen to. But then I stopped being so closed minded about music, and stopped caring, about judging others for their music tastes, and just  enjoyed the music. And to me that is what music means to me. Enjoyment of something that can bring people together, no matter how different we may be on the outside. We are all still humans.

What about music speaks to you if it does?

The things about music that speak to me, are the fact that no matter what day it is, or what mood I'm in. I can always find something that will either enhance it if I'm in a good mood, or help me relax, or get my anger out or even cheer me up. Because I realise that somewhere else, someone is listening to the same songs I am, and feeling the same way I am. I suppose it goes back to the whole "Music can unite" mentality, but I do believe this. In society, we can either join together, or fall to solitude and divide the differences. I guess music has taught me to be more open minded and tolerate others more than I used to. I guess growing up and finding my way on my own, with music, it just helped that speed up a little bit more. Music can also have a massive impact on the brain functions. It can make your IQ higher, and apparently, there are studies, that say, playing classical pieces, such as Beethoven, or Mozart to young infants whilst they are being lulled to sleep, can actually help with their intelligence in later life. So, I guess, music can help everyone in some way.

What emotions/feelings do you get from a particular song (If so what's the song and why does it mean so much to you?) , artist, lyrics or is it just the rhythm/beat that attracts you?

I suppose this is a broad question, and it really depends on the song, and the lyrics. Now, things that attract me to songs, are usually, catchy or meaningful lyrics... and also, a damn good catchy tune! However, if I need something more chilled, I will quite happily listen to either classic pieces, or Celtic or folk music. Because it usually has a nice calming/relaxing effect. When I did dance, the music would be that, of something that would get you energized and want to get up and move around. The same with when I'm running. It all depends on what you're doing or what mood you're in, as to what you listen to. I don't know how people can just listen to one genre of music for everything. Like, I love to listen to cheesy 70/80/90's pop music when I'm doing the washing or the cleaning. Or, really nice summer-y tunes if I'm getting ready or just sitting out in the garden reading a book, soaking up the sunlight. I like piano tributes of MCR and Three days Grace before I sleep. It's soothing. But then if I'm getting ready to go out, or I'm on my way to a night out, I'd usually listen to stuff like Gwen Stefani, MacMiller, Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry etc. and If I'm just sat at home, I'd usually just shuffle through loads of things. It all depends on what I'm doing or what mindset I want to be in.

Basically what are your views on music?

I think this last question, has been covered through out the other questions. xD

Music to me is an irreplaceable source of everything one simply cannot find in books, writing, drawing, texting, random chatter, what have you. Granted, those things are wonderful, but they simply aren’t music. As a lover of music and a growing musician, music is something I can find regardless as to where I am or what I’m doing. If nothing else, I can silently sing or hum to myself (though regardless of many injuries to the neck, my voice isn’t worth a red cent.)

And besides all that seriousness, I’m always listening to the lyrics and find what fits me the best depending on what mood I’m in. Several Linkin Park songs seem to fit me most of the time.

Haha!! Thats so true. :3

Music is my everything. It is my inspiration and my life and breath. It was the only thing I had to lean on whenever my life was pure shit, and it helps to stablize my emotions now. I sing to make myself happy and lyrics run through my mind constantly. I don't think I'd be alive now if I didn't have my music.

Music is everything to me. Allows me to express my emotion. To show who I really am. To tell my story to those who'd listen and possibly relate. I love playing in the rain, especially at night.

It's a way for me to be somewhere else.. It also helps me deal with emotions. Sometimes music puts word or feelings to thought or emotions that I'm not able to know what to do with.

I love music because it's a way to express myself and my emotions but also because it's awesome :P Sometimes I don't know what I'd do without it. Music is the only thing that got me through the things no one else could. (Actually, I think I'm gonna write a song about what music means to me referring to music as a person... Lol)
