I do, but am in the process of quitting smile.gif down to 2 per day from a half pack (or more on bad days) - hurray!

When I was underage, i lived in the middle east where they didn't really check age when purchasing cigs, so it wasn't a problem at all. Then I moved to Canada, where i was underage for a year... during that time, I got my 19+ friends to buy smokes for me.

I don't recommend smoking to anybody, btw. It's a great stress reliever and whatnot (i won't lie, the emotional and mental wonderfulness is...wonderful), but it's a really hard habit to kick, and your lung capacity starts to suffer noticeably after a few years. I can't run or swim laps for more than 20 mins straight without stopping and gasping for breath these days sad.gif

yeah
i don't smoke that often, but I'm sure I'll be addicted soon enough
i smoke only lights though, and i think that's got a lot to do with why I'm not
'cause non-lights have a coating of nicotine on the outside of the cigarette which gets on your fingers when you smoke
then it gets on any food you eat or anything else you touch for a bit

Lights have actually been proven to be worse because you pull harder when you smoke them.

And if you aren't addicted yet, you may want to ease off of them, because once you ARE, it's a bitch and a half to stop.

I started when I was 13, quit for a year at 17, started again when i came to university at 18...and here i am now.

Just to put it out there, I really don't like smokers.
They waste their money, their time, their body. For no reason.
For a hard drug, cigarettes do nothing for you, right? So I don't see much point, and I hate to see how tobacco companies have fucked up so many in this world.

what do you mean by "pull harder"?

i guess I'm addicted, just not strong
like i really really want one right now
and i would've been asleep by now if i had one
but i dont smoke often, like probably 1 or 2 every couple of weeks
i just get urges sometimes, but i dont need to smoke on a daily basis or anything
^shrug^

i don't see cigs as a hard drug at all, and they help a lot with mental anguish and stress. So they DID do something for me.... and I'm sure other smokers have a similar experience.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone out for a smoke to calm the fuck down. You start to associate chill-type vibes with it. Or at least, I did.

When you take a drag, you inhale harder - thicker filters, wanting to get more nicotine, etc. etc.

I meant comparatively. It might do a little for you, but you could do better than nicotine.
Tobacco is definitely considered to be a hard drug, though. Lots of dependence, lots of health risks:

Don't get me wrong. I'm very glad to be quitting.

I'm not pro-smoking, but I am pro-smokers.

I think people should have the choice and not be made to seem like lesser human beings because of this vice. There's a lot of unnecessary stigma around it now. Yes, it's an unhealthy habit. Yes, the world would be a better place with healthier people. But cigarettes provide a very social, a very easy, non-serious crutch after a hard day... and most (adult) smokers are responsible and respectful enough to not smoke around someone who finds it oppressive.

i agree 100%
even when I do smoke, if I'm around anyone or if I'm driving with people I always ask to make sure it's alright with everyone before I light up, cause I know how annoyed I used to get when I was in a car with someone smoking before I started.

smoking is bad,

but its your choice, also when you smoke you should make sure your not near
non smokers or little kids, passive smoking is really dangerouse

and i hope that if your trying to quit, you do end up quitting,

Yeah, I suppose I should say I'm not trying to force my ideas onto anyone. Just my opinion.
It was just a couple days ago that I walked in on an old friend smoking. She's only 14, and I've known her for ages. Not someone I want to see with a cigarette in hand, you know? It's at this point that kids can get addicted or not, and she chose to do so. (And the OP doesn't seem to be much older than her.) Anyway, I was just explaining why I'm sort of ranting on this topic right now. ;D

I don't know what it is with the consensus against smoking is. One is merely abusing and destroying their own body, assuming one is socially skilled enough to not smoke near non-smokers. I am of the opinion one can do everything, as long as they face the consequences; smoking, cutting, being "alternative" in general. All have consequences, some positive and some negative.

For example; alcohol. Generally, people boast about how drunk they can get. And yet, 19,171 persons died of alcohol-induced causes in 2007 in the US alone; murders, car crashes and accidents in general. Whilst I haven't seen or heard about anyone killing another person because they smoked so much (assuming we're talking tabacco). So, why are smokers considered to be social pariahs when there are these other types of substances that kill more directly? Surely spending 30 minutes in a car next to someone smoking isn't going to harm you as much as doing the same near a drunk.

Don't get me wrong though, I love to drink. I live in the miraculous country of Holland where you can get legally drunk at 16. And at 12 if your mom knows the shop owner. wink.gif

I am a smoker, yes. I love smoking both tabacco and, well... let's just say I get the word "hippy" thrown at me. wink.gif
