I tend to say it before I write anything down. This often results in me having a single stanza which I haven't written down yet. I then write this down and continue with the other stanzas in similar ways.
I personally tend to write four line stanzas or six line stanzas.
My four lines will generally go, ABCB.
My six lines will generally go, AABBCC.
My style of saying it before I write anything means that in almost any poem I write there is flow and it can be read smoothly. It also means that one of my lines won't be too long and leave me gasping for breath or pausing before reading the next line.
When I write, I write as for it to be read later.
(Oh yeh, and Tyler... Im locking this temporarily so that our two styles are at the top)

My style is, of course, old English/Edgar Allan Poe style. I do not really have a set way of doing my work, I just do. I really cannot explain. All I know is this: When I write a poem, I am making a small copy of that which is etched in upon my heart. If I had to say anything more, I would say I adhere to the "Poetic Principle" by Edgar Allan Poe. One last thing: All my work starts off in my notebook.
Thanks.

ummmmm
i write something i like, find the rythm from that,
and build from there.
i rarely go back and change it because i like my work to show what im thinking at the time im writing it.

Hmm. I tend to follow different styles, to mix it up a bit. I actually write poetry a lot, I just don't post them because of the fucking character limit and the fact that I can't use enter. I always write abstract poems with alterior meanings. They usually rhyme to some extent, but too much emphasis on rhyme ruins the feeling. (: Oh yeah, if I post a poem can one of you edit it and use enter after each line?

hm well i start out by just saying some sentences and i like the way they sound so i write them down and make a poem.
i pretty much always write a four lined stanza with ABCB rhyming...it just works easy for me.
most of the time i write to express what im feeling. or i will write a poem about something i just heard or read about.
i rhyme in each of my poems because for me it just makes it easier to write and read. and rhymezone really helps
so yeah....

yeah the ABCB is my friend since most of my writings are songs so when I do write a poem I tend to use the same structure. As for styling I am a big fan of metaphors and rhetorics and have a strange fascination with writing dialogue between characters, especially abstract exploring interactions through actual dialogue and also inner thought. I'm a weirdo yes but I just love experimenting with every angle I can

A stanza is like a poetical paragraph.

I open a Word document and write down anything that comes to mind. Absolutely every conscious thought. By the end of the first page it usually works itself into pattern, if not I rearrange the thoughts, change words around here and there and that's it. : )

I havent put much attention to the structure of my writing, mainly becuase its not in my plann.
But surely I will in the future.
When I write, I write whats in my soul.
The aching part inside me wishing to be exposed.
I beleive that if you have a wide range of vocabulary, but are only swinging them
randomely into your poems, its not going to make sound any nicer than
how a child would write your poem with his words.
So, whoever thinks packing their poems with a bunch of nonsense adjectives and adverbs in one
piece of writing think will make them smarter, its time for you to smack some stone cold fish on your face
Not that it concerns,
Its just something that has been laying in the corner of my mind.
Anyways, there are many type of poem structures you can use,
But I beleive that your imagination plays a bigger role in your poem.
But surely I will in the future.

Poems can be almost ANYTHING.
They do not need to have alliteration, rhyme, rhythm, comparations, personifications or methaphores,
allthough they are found in good poems.
Poetry is defined as concentrated language.
So it's any text divided properly which you need to analyse to find the meaning.

Just because people the likes of POE and occasionally myself like to exercise their vocabulary doesn't mean it's showboating...

I used to love writing poetry and reading it.
But now I'm afraid my new english teacher has truly crushed it for me.
I wrote a poem about her, but two of the lines are one syllabull (sp?) too long.
I can't seem to find a way to fix that...usually I can.

Do not worry about syllables etc, that is just an added thing. Granted, it helps, but poetry is about creating.
