my sister is like that too. Though, seeing as we were raised in China / Taiwan to begin with, the cultural leap is not nearly as big as for most westerners.
Of course, I think she likes it a little differently. She digs the cultural imports and she seems keen on a lot of the pop culture stuff. but as a place to live? she's not that interested, I don't think.

that depends on where you go.
Japanese culture is one of those things that you can spend the next 10 years on and still only scratch the surface of.
It's one of those things that you really cannot learn by just reading or study.
best way to understand Japanese culture best is really just to live there for some time. Easiest way I have heard of is to go through the JET program. (Stands for Japanese English Teaching Program) Generally, you need to have a college degree, have a pulse, and not be a complete fuck up to get in.

well, I mentioned the JET program because it is seriously one of the EASIEST ways to getting yourself over there. And it's easier to learn about a culture if you're actually living there. So, when you're done with school and stuff, if you're still interested, take a look into the JET program. They'll hook you up with work and I think a place to live. (which helps tremendously in getting you settled in)
not something that I would suggest spending a lifetime doing, but if just to go and see? it's not a bad idea.

Yeah, Japan is really fascinating, and the culture is amazing. Althrough you most likely can't even come close to understanding their culture fully without living there.

I've been wanting to live in Japan since about 4th grade. It would be sick to live in a commune in Japan

you'd be surprised how easy it is to get into the JET program. Like I said, the entry barrier is pretty low. You pretty much just need to have a pulse and not be a monumental fuck up.
