No offence to anyone but on thing I notice is that a lot of the RP's are similar, they are either;
Supernatural,
Zombie,
School,
Or something to do with either an appocalypse or war.
So my questions to you EC RP's;
1] Do you like just having those types of RP's?
2] What type of setting would you like to try that isn't available?
3] Do you have you any ideas but haven't posted them for some reason?
[If so, why haven't you and what are they?]
4] Also do you have any competition ideas that could be put into effect?
[Take for example how 'New Rp!' is the longest running RP on EC.]

1. No
2. Steampunk sci-fi
3. Because me and SG are working on them.
4. Best ORIGINAL character.

Fair enough to the first three, I suspect you are creating No. 2 with SG?
Also I like the competition idea.

Too many people use cookie cutter pre-mades for EVERYTHING, so I want to see them stretch themselves.

What counts as an original character?
I'd like to see something like the awards that Vagrant held over in Hangout, but for RP-related things, if that makes sense.

yeah, rellik and I have been talking about creating a system for play-by-post style games and we'll be test running it using a steampunk setting.
the idea behind it is that we introduce a level of control and guidance towards how players create characters and interact with each other. I believe that doing so will help people focus on deepening their character rather than add on additional gimmicks.

A character who isn't re-used or like almost every character you've made or like someone elses character, is what it is from my understanding of it.

Sounds good, let me know how it goes.

well, Rellik has volunteered to do the actual setting design on this one, so until he gets that pumped out, we're just in sort of a sit and wait mode. we're both looking forward to testing the new system out.

But most roleplayers here have characters that they use. Granted, they may have three or four different characters, but does this mean they are reused and therefore not original? what are the characteristics of an original character? For example, I very rarely pick from the races given to me in an RP unless there is a specific need to do so, and such an action usually means my character is different from all the others. Does that class an an original character? Sorry if I sound pendanctic or deliberately trying to pick holes in something, but I'm just trying to put across the point that originality is very much in the eye of the beholder, the situation in which this originality has arised, etc. Ahem.

True, if/when I do the competition I shall incorperate in the description of an original character.

I have NEVER EVER reused a character concept or design.
And I've been roleplaying for nigh on a decade.
An original character is a character created SPECIFICALLY for the game from scratch, not a preset archetype you fall back on.

not to mention, if your entire effort in distinguishing your character from the other is through the use of your race/class combo, you're already getting off to a pretty rocky start. It's not to say that race and class don't matter, but in that it over simplifies it. I've been RPing for more than a decade and I don't think I've ever re-used a stock character myself. (except when GMing, in which case, ninjas out of a can for every occasion to stall the players)

^I was using it as an example, it does go further than that.
And @Rellik - 'tis why I said 'most', my dear.

1] Do you like just having those types of RP's?
No.
2] What type of setting would you like to try that isn't available?
Mass Effect RP. High level of diversity in its setting leaves lots of open space for creativity. No pun intended with the word "space."
I was also thinking about an Aliens RP based off of the Twentieth Century Fox movie.
3] Do you have you any ideas but haven't posted them for some reason?
Yes. I'm not finished thinking it through entirely.
4] Also do you have any competition ideas that could be put into effect?
I like Relik's idea about original characters. I was also thinking best protagonist/antagonist, best forensic (involves posts with deep thought, problem solving, and well thought out descriptions), as well as best action-based post.
I'll be on MSN if you guys want to discuss RPing at all.
No.

You have some good ideas, I look forward to seeing them if you ever put them into effect.
I also like your contest ideas, I am thinking of starting a contest soon.

Second thought. Instead of a Mass Effect RP, which would probably take forever to write up, I decided to finish a Halo based RP that is ready for posting. Meanwhile, with that going on, I'll try writing up the Aliens RP as things progress.
I'd like the opinions of other RPers though. Should I go through with starting a Halo RP or just not even bother?

Hmmm, either just dive in and try it, someone will surely join in, or create a thread asking if anyone would be interested in those type of RP, also the advantage of that thread is you can already sort out characters and the like and already know what your 'getting into' as it were, beforehand.
