FAQ

Q. Why aren't my posts showing up?
A very small number of your first posts must be approved by a moderator before they will become visible.
Once you have reached a certain number of constructive posts, you will be promoted to Full Member and your posts will show up immediately.

This is an essential trade-off to prevent spam and abuse of the forums.

Newbies can't start new topics, please check out existing topics and join in with conversations there first. You will be able to create your own topics soon.

Q. Someone is posting spam, porn without NSFW tags or harrassing me, what do I do?
Use the button underneath that person's post, and specify the username of the person you are reporting, and the reason. This will notify the moderators who will take a look and take action if they feel it is necessary. Please don't make frivolous reports, for example reporting someone just because they disagree with you is not allowed.

Q. What sort of content am I allowed/not allowed to post?

You are not allowed to sign up with the sole intention of advertising another site or a product. It's ok to link to other sites very occasionally, provided you contribute to this one as well. You may also advertise in your signature, provided it's within a reasonable size limit.

You are not allowed to threaten or harrass another EC member.

You are not allowed to post offensive or illegal images, such as those depicting gore or bestiality.

Mild pornographic content is allowed, as long as it is not used with [img] tags or posted as an attachment and is clearly marked 'NSFW'.

Q. I really can't figure out how to get something to work...
There is a board called "Board FAQ and Suggestions".
You should find your answer here, or in this topic. If not, send a personal message (PM) to me (Finality)and I'll be happy to answer your question.

Q. What is emo/Am I emo?
There's a detailed topic on this- FAQs About Emo.

Q. I cut myself all the time, what do I do?
There are multiple topics on this subject:
"Cutting and Self Harm" by finality
"Cutters" by No Quarter
"Important Links" by Beth.

It might also be worth your while to check out the Help and Advice board.

Q. Am I allowed to post photographs of someone else and claim to be that person?
No, definitely not. We can't be sure that people who do this are not dangerous, so if it is proven that you have been using pictures of someone else and claiming to be that person, you will be suspended and possibly permanently banned.

Q. What are the consequences of plagiarizing poetry or artwork?
You will be suspended and possibly permanently banned if you continue to plagiarize after being warned.

Q. Am I allowed to post stupid topics, such as "OMG GUYZ WUDNT A BULLETPROOF TV BE COOL"?
No. Again, shut up. We have plenty of stupid topics already.

Q. Can my signature be any size I like?
No, huge signatures are not allowed as they affect other members' enjoyment of the forums by making it necessary for them to scroll excessively when reading a thread. Try to keep your signature as small as you can, and if you're including images, make sure to resize them if they're large. Signatures are moderated on a case by case basis, and if yours is deemed by a mod to be too large, you'll be asked to reduce the size of it. Refusal to do so may result in your account being suspended.

Q. Am I allowed to swear on the forums?
Yes, though swearing excessively will make you look stupid.

Q. Am I aLOWd 2 TypE LieK dIs???!!1
No, type properly. You may be suspended or permanently banned for excessively awful typing.

Q. Help! I'm suicidal and about to kill myself!
Call 999/911/whatever your local emergency number is. They can provide immediate health services. People scattered across the globe, unfortunately, can not.
You may also get help from one of the sites listed here- "Important Links" by Beth.

Q. DO YU THINK MA CAT IS EMO TEE HEE
Shut up. Posts like that are considered spam and you may be banned from emo-corner as a result of them.

Q. I'm not emo, can I still be a member of emo-corner?
Of course you can, in fact most of our members aren't emo. Many are just interested in the emo trend or music, and others simply enjoy EC. We don't discriminate, be yourself. smile.gif
However, that said, if you post threads such as "OMG WHY NOBODY ELSE HERE EMO?" you may be suspended for posting crap and basically spamming. We've answered that question several times and it gets quite annoying.

Q. Why have my e-mail address, telephone number, myspace and/or other personal information been removed from my post?
This is for your own safety. These forums are public and can be viewed by anybody. If you feel you must, put any personal information you want to share in your profile, as your profile may only be viewed by members of EC. However if you are under 18 years of age in particular it's highly recommended that you don't reveal any personal information on the internet.

Tips For Newbies
Don't overuse the BB code, nobody enjoys reading "Hello? Is this the internet?"

HTML code doesn't work here, so avoid it like the plague.

Treat any criticism you receive as 'constructive criticism', even if it's bordering on abrasive. This is the internet, and it can have a negative effect on certain people- "internet tough guy syndrome."
To sum it up, don't take anything said to heart.

Type your words correctly, and use punctuation and occasional line breaks to make your posts easier to read, especially if you're posting poetry/stories or asking for advice.

Don't just add random people as friends- at least drop them a comment or PM first.

Don't take the emo trend seriously. It doesn't define you as a person; it doesn't sum up your personality. Don't take criticism of emo personally- it's generally the unpleasant stereotype which is being criticized, not you or your interpretation of the trend, unless otherwise specified. Read this for more information on emo.

Don't make repeats of threads that have recently been made- they clutter up the forums and will more than likely be locked and/or flamed.

Deleting Topics
The moderators in this section, or any section for that matter, do not wish to spend their time running about after your stupidity. If you would like a topic locked, you must provide good reasoning unless it is your own. However, deleting them? Unless you have a good explaination of why you want this, no action will be taken.

There is no need to delete perfectly good topics, on the grounds of not liking anothers opinion. Grow up please.

Correct BB Code Tags

First of all, I think you should know:
Fonts, colours, etc are best used to express yourself via poetry or text art. It just annoys people who have to read your writing, if you use the BB code excessively or improperly.

As a general rule, just use the default font size, colour, etc.

Bold and italic fonts can obviously be used for emphasis when you feel it's necessary, however it's unlikely that you'll need to emphasize an entire post, so use bold and italic tags sparingly.

Okay: Onto correct tags.
TEXT MUST BE PLACED BETWEEN THE BB CODE TAGS.

For colour, bold, italics, size, etc.
For bold text, you will have [b]You need to insert your text here. [/b]

And for italic: [i]your text here[/i]

Size is measured from 1-5, one being the smallest, five the largest.

Size tags look like this: [size=3]your text here[/size]

To embed youtube videos:
[youtube]Here, put the video code. This would be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX8yrOAjfKM That part. [/youtube]
So your tags would look like this:
[youtube]yX8yrOAjfKM[/youtube]

For images from a website:
You can use [img]image url here[/img]

Customising Links:
If you want to link to another site but to replace the url with your own text, this is how you go about it.

[url=http://www.google.com]Google - Click Here![/url]
This would look like:
Google - Click Here!

You can also combine BB code tags, for example:
[b][i]your text here![/i][/b]
Would look like:
your text here!

Note: Make sure to use square brackets.
Also, html code does not work on the forums.
