Take lostandconfused2 as an example, she just called people fucking idiots, so she is judging you, herself, and everyone else without realizing it.
Sigh, I feel like I need to say something else.
People tend to judge a lot when they are insecure about themselves, or have a high confidence about themselves and think they have the right to judge others. Don't take what they say to heart, if they call you shit without knowing you, then ignore it.

The fact is that the way you choose to look does reflect your personality to some extent. If you dress according to a certain trend you're more likely to listen to a certain type of music and hold certain opinions. For example if you're goth you're likely not to believe in God, you're likely to listen to metal to the exclusion of other types of music "dance music sucks - it's just noise" maybe, you're likely to prefer horror movies, you're likely to feel victimized or misunderstood "why do they judge me?", and you're likely to hold largely negative views on life, for example that life is meaningless or that most people are conformist assholes.
I'm not saying any of that is necessarily true, it's just the stereotype, but if you dress according to a stereotype it's downright stupid to think you won't be stereotyped, or to think you're truly expressing yourself through the way you dress. Honestly, trying to look goth or emo is probably just going to cause you more trouble than it's worth, and people WILL judge you at first sight through no fault of theirs. Everybody judges everyone else based on appearance. You see someone in a suit, then you see someone running down the street in their underwear. You don't know either of them, yet you'll form different impressions of them.

Hell, it's why I'm judging you.

What Armando, Mike and Toni said. All hit the nail on the head. Anyone who says they don't judge any one based on appearances is a liar. It's the natural human way.
This, though I'm more than willing to drop my first impressions of people after knowing them a little better.
@OP: The problem with dressing, looking and behaving differently to the rest of the school is that you will be talked about, there's no way around it. People are naturally drawn to the different, whether it's positively or negatively. If you see a red car in a sea of silver cars, it immediately stands out to you, if you get me. Hell, you probably judge people who wear certain clothes and look a certain way because of that reason as well, so it's not a one way street by any means.

I personally don't hate on people, if they happen to dress like an ape or speak in alien language then fine by me. As long as they show some sense of intelligence and take pride in themselves then even the least popular kid at school I'd happy to be friend with. It's just the matter of self-esteem really.

like what the others said, if you dress in ways that make you stand out, some people will take a look at you and go "oh theres a gothy emo kid, dont like them so im not going to talk to her"
And if you dressed normal the emo or goth kids might say "oh look at the comforming girl and her main stream clothes." it comes from both sides.
i personaly like to stand out with flashy clothes and dressing in ways that grab attention, it starts conversations good and bad ones. but hey im dressing this way to be judged, i dress this way so when i meet somone that likes how i dress and thinks its cool, i will know that they are nice to be around.
hope this does not sound like crap and hope it helps.

You'll eventually find it easier to breathe around people, since people are assholes, hell, I'm an asshole, I don't like you. But hey, enough of that, just take this advice and move on with life.

But in reality before you look at others and wonder why they make judgements, ask yourself what have you done to alienate them in the first place, the fact is exploring your fashion is not something you do in school, in school, work and social gatherings it's always worth toning down your look. I wouldn't march into work wearing leather pants, jack boots and a "Jesus is a Cunt" shirt, because socially that would be unacceptable. Find the balance between being all out goth and just having a few accentual pieces of jewellery.
Having something like a ring or necklace with gothy symbolism is more likely to raise someones curiosity and encourage interaction then being a fully make upped 'goff'.
But also expect stupid questions, don't be offended by them, encourage them, as there is a good chance it's someone wanting to learn more, try not to be stand offish and out landish, be approachable and people will be less "You're a goth freak" and more "Oh you're a goth? I didn't know, that's cool."
