I'm really hoping that there's not another topic/thread like this. I have severe insomnia and my pills only work sometimes. I've talked to the doctor about this and he told me to wait until the meds got into my system, but has been months now and there's no improvement. When I do get sleep its only for a few hours before I wake up from terrible nightmares. The nightmares range from being buried alive to cut straight in half and everything in between. I stopped taking the pills for a week as an experiment, and I didn't sleep at all. I'm not sure which is better nightmares and waking up even more exhausted than before, or not sleeping at all. Getting to my point I wanted to ask if you people had any tricks up your sleeves that might help me get some sleep? Any tips to stop the nightmares? Either would help. I'll try any suggestion and if it helps I'll talk to my doctor about it. My next appointment is on the 31st of this month, and I'm sure that there will be more appointments soon after. Thank you.

Medication takes awhile to get into your system, it's not magic! You take them like you're suppose to, and not just stop taking them. That fucks with your system, so since you didn't take them for a week, they could've worked for all you know.
After awhile taking the pills and them still not working, the doctor would change your dosage or put you on a different drug.

Try to Meditate before you go to sleep, it helps a lot for me.

medication only covers the problem, it doesn't fix it. Having nightmares is a psychological problem. ALot of questions to ask, like what kind of movies/shows do you watch? what kind of music? what type of people do you hang around? things like that are why you have nightmares. What you dream about reflects on things you've either experienced recently or seen. Could be things you don't even think would effect you. As far as the sleep issue, well there are alot of ways to help that. What you eat is the biggest factor. Have to remember how your body acts effects your brain and you brain controls your body even while sleeping. (like say your heart doesn't beat properly, say from stress or some other issue) As far as just being able to get sleepy, you could try herbs like Valerian root, Jamaica Dogwood or hops. If it's a mental anxiety problem well then it's a little harder but i myself have found ways around it. You have to think of something that can keep going on with slight changes without having people talking in your dream. like just visuaizing yourself or someone doing something that doesn't take alot of brain power.. but isn't too repetitive. I can't always remeber specificaly what i dreamt about, i think once or twice it was me going to the skate park and just doing runs, other times was just wandering around a park enjoying different views. whatever works for you. it's one of those things once you start thinking about it, you'll know you have it after about 30 seconds or less.
