all credit goes to Ashin for starting this, I just thought it could be a potential thread rather than drowning in small talk...

Two women. Sixty days. No make up. No shaving. No primping. What happens next?

What are you giving up as part of The Naked Face Project?

For sixty days, we will give up wearing any makeup, removing any body hair, altering our hair from its natural state (dying, curling, straightening), wearing uncomfortable feminine clothing (high heels, tight skirts), wearing jewelry (with the exception of wedding bands), painting our nails, using anti-wrinkle or anti-acne lotions, wearing deodorant, or styling our hair for reasons other than function.

Are you saying there's something inherently wrong with these things?

Absolutely not. We are not "anti" anything. For us, it's not about wrong or right. We're hoping to discover something unknown to us now, through this process. What we will discover is a mystery at this point.

What are you not giving up?

We plan to blow dry our hair (because it's the winter), brush our teeth, wear sunscreen, and dress appropriately for the occasion. The issue of dressing appropriately gave us great pause. We have decided that The Naked Face Project is not about being outrageously socially unacceptable. It is possible to dress professionally without being inherently uncomfortable.

I don't see how not shaving your armpits and not wearing deoderent would help with insecurities. I can't speak for anyone else, but I think I'd be a hell of a lot less happy with my appearance with hairy legs and armpits  I do love the idea of becoming comfortable in your own skin that you can go without wearing make up, or straightening your hair - but I don't think it's necessary to go around doing it for 60 days and kind of feel the need to scream it to the world - that just proves you're insecure about it, it should be more of a natural option every day.

Seriously? Deoderent? :/ I never got the problem with body hair either. It's not like I feel like a trapped woman in a mans world pressured into shaving myself. I do it because I prefer it that way and my god does it look disgusting and smell bad.

Also, I hope you guys don't mind, but I'm separating the posts thus far into a thread.

>implying tightness is uncomfortable.

I own some tight tees, and they are all, uniformly, the most comfortable tees I own. Maybe it's different with skirts, but I also own tight jeans and AGAIN, they are the most comfortable jeans I own.

In the scheme of things, 60 days is only two months. That's nothing.

Obviously you don't have to do the full thing with no shaving or using deoderant, and not wearing tight clothing, I'm not going to stop that, that's basic hygiene and it's a preference. I think the shaving thing applies to women who overpluck their eyebrows, ew. And tighter clothing for those who feel they need to impress someone.

However, I am looking forward to trying to appreciate my own skin, becoming more confident as well as using less make up. Or rather learning not to. I've thought of this before, I'm a very insecure person and I need make up, or rather feel like I need it, to make myself presentable. There are many things I hate about my appearance. Although I have done something like this, and made a drastic change for myself, now I use less make up just concealer, blush, eyeliner and lipstick. It's also an oppertunity to try and be a healthy, positive person. Regardless, it's an interesting project and I have time to kill with it. What's the harm?

Now if only we could convince Ash to go 60 days without talking. Ah well.

Good grief. Being comfortable in your own skin is one thing, going total hippie for two months is entirely another. Personally, I could never do this. It isn't that I'm ridiculously insecure or something, I just like looking, well, not like a frigging monkey. What are they getting at, anyways? It's possible to be content with your personal appearance and still wear makeup and be hygenic. You do it because you enjoy it, not because you absolutely despise how you look without it.

As a person that wears mainly only tight clothing, I can tell you there is a difference. Tight jeans are really comfortable and so are tight shirts. A tight skirt, in the other hand, is basically a tube you have covering your private parts that's really hard to move in since it slides up when you walk, sit down or bend over. There's only really one position to sit in while wearing it. Don't even think about running in it. Of course, it depends on the material and the piece itself, but I can say most of the time tight skirts are rather uncomfortable. Try wearing one, you'll notice.

Would not ever do this, nowai. For me make up isn't necessarily about looking good, though of course that's a factor, it's more about the impression it gives people of me. My clothes are generally very neutral and I think without da black eyeliner I'd be perceived differently. I also look very young and innocent without makeup and that's just not me. I feel very uncomfortable without it, the only place I really don't wear it is school. I don't think I look like "me" without makeup.

If people want to go without makeup for a while, whatever. I don't think what they're doing is so huge that they need to draw attention to it, however. For example, my mother never wears makeup, but she doesn't make a fuss about it or alert people to the fact.

I think what it is, is that if these women just decided not to wear makeup, without making it into a "project", they would feel very insecure about it. This way they can hide behind "oh we're making a statement, we're challenging things." They said themselves that they don't even know what they're hoping to achieve.

I don't see why it's such a big deal...I guess it's because I never wear make up; it takes too long to put on and it's really annoying to wash off, etc. And I refuse to wear anything uncomfortable...And I like my hair messy. Not OVERLY stupidly messy. But I don't purposefully spend hours making it look all neat. So, I can't understand why so many feel the need to do all that. It sounds like a really easy challenge, but that's probably just my opinion.

Edit: The one confusing thing. They're not going to use deodorant, but they're going to wear sun cream? In winter? O.o
