The setting is a small town in the countryside, made up mainly of farmland. It is situated at the bottom of a moor, with forest surrounding it on all side. There is a river running through the middle of the town, and an old wooden bridge serving as the only way across. It would be the most beautiful place imaginable...if it wasn't for the construction.
More houses are being built to accommodate more people, and old houses, trees, even farms are being torn down because they are 'in the way', to be replaced by ugly, almost city-like structures, and car parks. Most of the residents don't really mind it that much. They see it as progress; moving them forward like the rest of the world.
Anywho...Whether they agree with the construction or not, our characters most likely will not soon, depending on how they respond to the events that are about to occur around them.
The story begins at 3 o' clock in the morning one Saturday night. For whatever reason, the characters can not sleep, or just feel like watching TV at that particular time. They see the creepiest thing ever...Think The Ring, except with a skeletal clown-like creature instead of a girl with long black hair. Assuming it was a)a dream, or b)some crazy program that was just on at that time that no one who had seen it even wanted to talk about, they go to bed. Or just stay up the rest of the night...whatever.
The next day, however, something is odd. There are strange creatures floating, crawling, walking around town, and even some of them in their own houses. And, for some odd reason, no one else seems to mind them...In fact, no one else pays attention to them at all. That's when it hits them: Only they can see these strange apparitions. It turns out, these things are spirits. (Not just ghosts.) Any spirit in general. eg. They could be the spirit of a tree in the forest, or something that was summoned up over hundreds of years by a certain feeling shared by humans...Any kind of spirit at all. They have been there for hundreds, maybe even thousands of years, and they are losing their home.
Most of these spirits dislike humans at the best of times, but right now they are irritated and upset because their homes are being destroyed by the construction. They become even more agitated when they realize that some of these humans are so 'arrogant' that they can actually see them now. And of course, being able to see them, means you are more likely to become involved, and caught up in the spirits' events...They do not like that one bit.
Slowly, the people who gained this ability will end up meeting. Either they want to get rid of this 'curse', or they find it interesting. They may even like the spirits or feel sorry for them...Either way, this new 'sight' draws them together, as well, and they begin to learn of the spirits' situation.
Will they try to help the spirits? Or will they simply try to ignore them and avoid being eaten? You decide. ^w^
Rules: -.-U Which everyone should know by now. Darmit I hate writing this part out. X3
1) No Godmodding. If your character is human, they will certainly not be invincible. They will have no supernatural abilities...other than the one that enables them to see spirits. If your character is a yokai (spirit), they MAY have some abilities. But the abilities MUST be directly related to what kind of spirit they are, and can NOT be something overly powerful and ridiculous.
2) Vampires and werewolves do not count. So please don't be one.
3) No attention seeking. No getting hurt every five minutes. No trying to be centre of attention ALL the time. No self harming every two posts. etc. etc. etc.
4) Violence/romance is encouraged but do not over do it.
5) Don't kill someone elses character unless they ask/let you.
6) If you want to leave, kill your character or make them go away somewhere. And certainly do not get everyone in a situation where your character is NEEDED, then be all: "kthanxbye."
7) Use correct spelling/grammar/punctuation. Typos are inevitable, but don't type like a drunk baboon, ok?
8) Feel free to come up with your own plot twists and ideas, and move the story along. But remember everyone's characters are just as important as yours. This isn't here just so you can be all: "Yay my character is super important!"
Most importantly, have fun. ^w^

Name: Kei.
Age: 24.
Appearance:
Human or Spirit: Human.
Other: He is a science teacher at the high school. His students would describe him as 'odd', but mostly in a good way. He has always been interested in the strange and supernatural...but, if he ever came across something unnatural, his first thought would probably be to dissect it. (Also, he allows students to call him by his first name because I cba. making last names. XD)
Name: Mizu.
Age: 200.
Appearance:
Human or Spirit: Spirit.
Other: Ame warashi. (Rain spirit.) He was born from the humans at the time praying for rain whenever their crops threatened to dry up. But, once people stopped 'worshipping' him, as he called it, he became bored, and began to cause small rainstorms whenever annoyed by humans, or to torment any humans who really do not want rain that day. He is able to take the form of a very small dragon. In human form, he is very small and always appears to move like water, leaving wet footprints behind. Sometimes the footprints are visible even to those who can not see spirits.
