Seagull Soup

First of all, if you know this or have heard it before, please do not give anything away because it takes all the fun out of solving the riddle. Cheating also takes the fun out of it, and it will really annoy me if anyone tries to cheat because then the riddle will be wasted.
Anyway. This is my version of the riddle:

Fred walks into a restaurant and asks for seagull soup.
The chef says, "I'm sorry but we cannot serve you seagull soup here."
Fred replies with,"What if I shoot the seagull myself, and pay you £500 for you to make it into soup, would you?"
"Of course." Said the chef.
Fred goes and shoots the seagull and brings it back to the restaurant, where he watches the chef make the seagull into soup.
As soon as Fred takes a sip, however, he pulls up a chair, sits down, takes out his gun and shoots himself. WHY?
(The soup is not rotten, and it is definitely seagull)

This quite a hard riddle, but my brother and I managed to solve it in just this evening, so I thought I'd put it up here.
You can ask any question you like, as long as it is a yes or no question.
I can also answer 'irrelevant.'
(Be sure to look back at previous questions to avoid repetition, and try to avoid vague questions such as "Does [person/thing/place] have anything to do with what happened?" Because it is difficult to answer.)

fred was stranderd on a island after a boat crash and was made to eat other poeple that were killed from the boat crash he was told it was seagul soup, but when he asked for seagull soup he expected it to taste the same as it did on the island once he relised he was eating other people on the island he shot himself.

i asked my earlychildhood teacher and thats what she said it seems legit.?
