I'm about to finish school (exactly 7 school days left) and I've been thinking a lot about what's happened during these 3 years and before that. I wanted to make a thread about this.

So, what are your most memorable school moments? (any funny stories etc)
Are there any teachers that you'll always remember?
How was school for you?
And, for the members who haven't been to school in a while, how much do you remember of your time in school?

I know the educational systems in different countries vary quite a lot, so you can talk about any school experiences. Elementary school, middle school, high school etc.

I'll write my own post later 'cause it'll probably take a while

I was in home economics I was explaining of how GM foods are done and I said "orgasm" instead of "organism"....just a slip of the tounge.
Are there any teachers that you'll always remember?
I'll definately remember my ICT/Art teacher she is the best teacher ever and is really fun and her birthday is the day before mine xD
How was school for you?
School is pretty good on most days except for those where detention and suspension comes in hand.
how much do you remember of your time in school?
I pretty much remember all of my schooling so far, I even remember being in preschool.

So, what are your most memorable school moments? (any funny stories etc) We used to have bomb scares all the time. Someone would call in a bomb threat, and the school would have to be evacuated and subsequently searched by police. It was funny to us, annoying to the teachers. We'd be on the field for hours when that happened. Hey, better than being in class, right? After 9/11, each bomb scare was taken very seriously. There were the fights that broke out. I remember one underneath the main staircase, and another where one student pushed another into a glass case and bloodied his face. That was awesome. Oh and I remember pushing someone into the girls' bathroom once and holding the door closed so they wouldn't be able to get out. I'm sure the girls were mortified. :P Any time I wasn't in class was a memorable moment. :P
Are there any teachers that you'll always remember? Oh yes. My 11th grade English teacher Maureen Brennan. She was strict, but was a great teacher. She really knew how to get our attention. I could talk about anything with her. She took the time to help you, and I ended up using her as a teacher recommendation for my college applications.
How was school for you? Pretty good actually. I was only bullied a few times, had some good friends, and was on the track and baseball teams. Anything I went through as a child didn't really occur at school, so I can't say my school life was terrible.
And, for the members who haven't been to school in a while, how much do you remember of your time in school? I remember a lot of it actually.

Well, I went to a few schools, but the one with most memories would have to be the one in Bradford I went to. Holy crap that was a horrible school.

what are your most memorable school moments? (any funny stories etc) - Unfortunately, the memories that stick the most are the bloody fist fights and horrible shit the bad students used to do. This one time, there was a fist fight in the reception area and there was blood flying everywhere. It was brutal, in a bad way. I also remember how often the fire alarm would go off, oh and the amount of ambulances that came to my school. I sound like I'm exaggerating but it was really that bad. The fire department even had to come and do a lecture about how the students are wasting precious resources and they could end up being the cause of someone's death (indirectly). I remember some kid got stabbed too, rumours say it was over a girl but I don't know what to think.

There were good times though, like this hill we started sliding down one day. Me and a friend were sliding down a hill for the fun of it on this plastic board thing we found. Eventually other people came and it ended up being a zone for tackling people for no reason.. Yeah... Bastards ruined our fun. There was also some kid who had an apple thrown at his head, he was ambulance'd by it, which wouldn't be funny if said guy wasn't a total dick. Oh, and some guy jumped out of the classroom window on the second (in America, the third) floor of the building. He was perfectly fine, but holy crap he was committed to skipping class that day.

Are there any teachers that you'll always remember? - Definitely. Mr McCreedy was my favourite teacher, he was fun and I aced maths because of him. I was one of the few to appreciate and respect him though, other kids took advantage of his kind nature which is really shitty of them. There's also Ms Kaur, my year 7 form tutor. She was brand new to teaching and was really kind, but slowly began to realise nobody respected that so she became a hardass, fast. Still, she helped me a hell of a lot through a few issues I had, so I appreciate her.

How was school for you? - Despite all the above memories of violence and whatnot, that school was the best times of my life. I kept out of trouble, of course and I found a tight group of like-minded people who were always fun to hang around with. I also had my first real relationship with someone at that school. The time I had there in general boosted my confidence and self esteem, I wasn't always the way I am now, I used to be really shy and socially awkward.

I don't regret much in school, I said some embarrassing and naíve things, but that's to be expected of a young teen, right?

Memorable moments? Uh... literally speaking, everything? I don't forget a lot o.o but.. I guess to properly answer I'd go with competition wins, I got dragged to the front of the school quite a few times to be poked about my winnings :S it's either than or some of the hilarious 'fights' which were just plain silly instead of serious. Could also be people fapping during exams for all to see - no it wasn't me -_-.

Teachers.. uhhhmmm... well one of them I'll remember simply because he used to borderline-stalk me around the school to get me to come to his damn club :c dragging me away from my noms and everything D:.

How was school? I honestly spent about as much time in school as I did off ill so :S I guess the period of time wasn't so fantastic but school itself was ok :S nothing great mind you.

I'm quite shocked about the amount of fighting in your schools. The fire alarm thing is a classic though  Did you go to an all boys school or were the girls just not that memorable?

Oh yeah, I can relate to that. I've been such an awkward kid and most likely few years from now I'll look back into this day and think the same  But I think that's natural, and it's important to at least in some point to realize your own stupidity or you'll never know if you're still like that :D

Fapping during exams sounds freaky. Never heard of that before :o

As for me:
What are your most memorable school moments? (any funny stories etc)
One time on sixth grade I thought I had a tumor in my breast. No kidding. I talked about it with my teacher, she was so sweet and found out what it could be for me. Turns out it was an internal bruise.

I remember a couple of years back we had porridge for lunch and a friend of mine spat a nicotine gum in one of the big pots. We still don't know if anyone got it on their plate.

From elementary school, I remember the times we would sneak out to the store during breaks. One time we got caught and told the teacher we were looking for my phone and she bought it. I also remember I was always forgetting my homework and one time the teacher lashed out at me in front of the entire class. I cried so hard. Then there was the time we got tipsy before the PE lesson, probably the only time I've had fun playing baseball

From the school I'm in right now, I remember always sleeping in the auditorium, changing the clocks during lessons to get out 10 minutes earlier, arguing with teachers, cheating on tests by writing things on my leg, my eraser or a piece of paper under the exam paper or hiding my cellphone in my clothing if I'm doing the test elsewhere. Once two of my friends exchanged their papers during the test and finished the exam for each other. Everyone else noticed but the teacher.

Oh I have so many more but I'm lazy so
Are there any teachers that you'll always remember?
Yeah. Nikula, our old English and Swedish teacher would always show us Futurama during the lessons. Then there was Vilijonkka (can't remember her real name) who danced for the class once. It was awful. My elementary school teacher was really nice, she was super suppotive yet quite strict. I think I'll remember a lot of my teachers, I've had some really good ones in the past.

How was school for you?
Most of the time a lot of fun. I've had a few worse seasons in elementary school but overall, I've liked school. I don't have to study to get good scores which has allowed me to hang out with the "popular crowd" without failing my classes like them

Oh no, most of my friends were girls, actually talking about that, I remember this girl who always tried to feel me up in class to embarrass me D: Fuck, that memory surfaced out of nowhere. Oh and I remember in PE, we were playing dodgeball with the girls, I can't remember why exactly, usually the boys and girls don't do PE together but that day was different. I managed to hit one of the girls square in the face (by accident) as she was stood watching the game. She didn't see it though, so I just pretended like I didn't do a thing

You got drunk in Elementary school? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that for people under 13 years old?

Oh I can so feel her pain, I'm always getting balls in my face D: I'm seriously lucky I've surived to this day without a broken nose

Not drunk, slightly tipsy. I'm not proud of this but it's really not worst thing we did. And yes, 6th grade is the last grade of elementary school and it begins when you're 12.

I went to a private catholic all girls school, there were about 600 pupils overall and about 100 in my year originally, but 70 by the time I was graduating. It definitely wasn't the kind of place where shocking things happened, everyone was generally very well behaved, there was no drug problems and very little pregnancies, people didn't really skip classes or talk back to teachers etc, it just wasn't the done thing.

what are your most memorable school moments? (any funny stories etc)

Most of my major fond memories are class trips. We went to London, Nice, Cannes, St Tropez, Germany (Munich), Austria, and Italy with my school, as well as a number of trips around Ireland. Most of the foreign trips were organised by my accounting teacher and weren't anything to do with the school or anything that had to happen, he just liked our class a lot and we often went to musicals, operas, etc. I was supposed to go to New York in my final year with him and 25 others, but I ended up in hospital having major surgery and I couldn't go.
I don't really have any funny stories though, except for the fact that the boys school down the road from us during prank week were at war with us and broke into the school and put flour and eggs everywhere. We kidnapped one of their first years as a joke to get back at them.

There was also the time someone spilled some pretty dangerous science acids and the school had to be evacuated.

There are some things that I associate with school that are fun to remember though, one of the strongest is the underage disco I used to go to. It was rather infamous, only really for affluent people and private schools, it was pretty common to judge whether you'd get in based off what school you went to. They somehow managed to get an alcohol license as they were a rugby club and just held the disco in the club, and the form of ID you needed was a photocopy of a passport. God, the copies were horrific and they definitely knew we were all underage. There are some quite fond memories associated with there, and one of the biggest questions if you're reminiscing about school is "so, did you go to wezz?"

Are there any teachers that you'll always remember?
Absolutely, my teachers pretty much defined my time in school. As mentioned before, my accounting teacher was quite personally close to us. I loved him so much. He was one of the best teachers I'll ever have, incredibly strict but such a warm heart. We were all terrified of him originally, and my god would he go off on the strangest personal stories sometimes, but he was a wonderful teacher, excellent at actually explaining the subject. Most of his students got As in national exams, and he brought a ton of girls up several grades, he made them love the subject. He personally tutored me when I came back to school after being in hospital. I'll never forget him. Having him as a teacher definitely influenced what I'm studying today (accounting and finance).

My English teacher in my last two years of school was also lovely, she was a real... educator as a whole, not just teaching you for an exam. She was an incredibly intelligent and well spoken lady. She loved me.

I also loved my french teacher, I had her for the entire 6 years I was in school, which is highly unusual, and again she was just an incredible teacher and a lovely woman.

How was school for you?

It was alright I suppose. I kind of started to be sick of it by my final year, and I don't miss school whatsoever. I think the strain of being in an all-girls school started to really wear off on me, and I got sick of all the bitchyness and fighting and rumour-spreading. I was lucky enough to go to a really good school though, so I feel incredibly privileged for that.

how much do you remember of your time in school?
Most of it, there's some quite vivid memories of just... every day occurances. I wouldn't say most of them are very fond memories though, I loved the education aspect, but the bitchyness not so much. I definitely don't agree with that school days are the best days of your life shit.

I'm so jealous of all the people that get to go to cool places with their schools. It's my last year and the most special trip we're making is to the amusement park 20 km away -__- Your school sounds really fancy

What are your most memorable school moments? (any funny stories etc)
Hm, funny stories. There are a lot, but many of which are personal inside jokes or simply silly things we did. My friends and I loved dares, we'd do a lot of them. My friends dared me to do things like high five every person that went by, offer hugs, make ten new friends by the end of lunch, we had 45 minutes for lunch, and other things I'm not going to say because they're embarrassing. It was awkward when you'd get people coming up to you, knowing who you are and talking to you, and not knowing who they are. But I guess it was a way to make new friends, haha. It was fun. I had to propose, then break up with a friend once in the middle of the dining area that was a mixture of all years, on a friday and a busy lunch. It was one of those moments where everyone just stops and stares. It was such an awkward thing to do. There was a time when we were having snowball fights at the back courts, and my friends and I were playing against some guys, we were frantically trying to gather up snow and throw it, because for some reason girls suck at making snowballs, and I remember throwing it at my friend, and feeling incredibly happy that it travelled further than my own feet, when he caught it smugly in his hands. Oh, the terror.

There was a lot of water fights, lazy sunny lunches on the big hilltop, cross country around the hills and sneaking off to enjoy the sunshine and just watch the sky. My friends and I just sitting in our favourite spot on the wall near the languages entrance, playing badminton at lunch, etc. An amusing moment in college, (I know I'm cheating) was when it was the elections, and we used to hold mock elections for politics and figure if we'd guess who'd win. We always were spot on in out voting. Any way, my friend was strolling through the math corridor, chanting 'OBAMA, OBAMA' and a teacher popped out demanding he shut up, but my friend screamed 'VOTEEE OBAMA!' then scampered. He also got banned from the library because he argued with the librarian, and she hated the fact that he was constantly moving around and wouldn't sit still. I was always the 'class clown' or made people laugh, and we were discussing Hamlet and my teacher was like 'So what do you think of Gertrude?' and it was deathly quiet, and no one would answer. I think I must have made a tell tale sign, I always bite my lip and tug at my hair when I want to say something, but I'm too nervous to or won't do it unless prompted, but she zeroed in on me immediately. 'Ash?' 'I think she was a gold digger!' And promptly started singing Gold digger with my friends, it kinda happened a lot after that whenever Gertrude was mentioned. Haha. My friends and I once decided to be geniuses and go get lunch in the pouring rain, whilst it was snowing and there was ice everywhere. We ended up having to walk at a snails pace, and Jess and I would hold on to one another as if were dying because we kept falling, and Rach was walking ahead casually like it was no big deal. We were absolutely soaked, and Jess and I were giggling hysterically because it was hilarious, and Rach turned around with her umbrella and mocked us, laughing, then turned around, slipped, did a freakishly awesome ninja move and semi dance with her umbrella and just froze for a good minute or so. I swear, I've never laughed so hard in my life.

I loved walking with my friends to get lunch, and my friend would carry me because he felt like it, and we'd just all joke around and pick on one another. A lot of those simple moments that were just lovely.

Are there any teachers that you'll always remember?
I remember all of my teachers throughout primary school to college. My favourites however.. My Media teacher in Year 11 was amazing. He was such a fantastic person and just generally the most amazing teacher ever. He was head of the English department, and very amusing and generally someone you'd love to talk to. He made you enjoy studying the subject, even if you hated it. My form tutor I loved, he was hilarious and so caring and genuinely interested in whatever we wanted to do in our lives. He encouraged us to do everything we aspired to, I did miss him when he moved to Australia. :(

I'm going to cheat and mention my favourite college teachers, which are two. My English language and lit teacher was crazy. Absolutely melodramatic, fantastically enthusiastic and generally eager to make everyone enjoy themselves. Which we did, she made us act out whatever we did, embrace literature with an overwhelming passion and made us feel everything we studied. She's one of the reasons why I want to become a teacher, and why I was undecided as to whether I wanted to study English or Media at uni. My Sociology teacher was someone people hated and loved, but it was mainly because the topic was so boring and he method of teaching was literally to print out handouts and she read from them, and we highlighted key words. I'm not even joking. That is what we did for her lessons every day without fail. It worked though, somehow. Her personality was very fun. She was sarcastic, dry and her sense of humour was what can only be described as witty and quick. I hated that subject but she was fantastic and very encouraging and truthful.

How was school for you?
School was fun. I loved it. I never got into fights or had drama, because I'm not stupid and avoided stupid people. I think anyone who ever had 'bitch fights' or girl issues, have them selves to blame. If someone was showing that they intended to be nasty towards me, I'd put a stop towards it immediately. Not that anyone ever did. I never had issues. My friends and I stuck to ourselves, there were four of us, and between us we knew the majority of the people in our year group, and friends with many, but stuck in our little group. We were popular in our own ways, we were quiet, but everyone liked us. I enjoyed almost all of my lessons, and my teachers were awesome, the people were great. And I honestly miss high school, it was fun.

How much do you remember of your time in school?
I remember everything. It's hard to forget something that was such fun, and it was also a big part of my life so I definitely enjoyed it. It made an impact on who I am today and the way I see things. My school wasn't bad, it was regular school. There were fights, but not anything major, there were school pranks and the regular gossip over who's split up and who's dating who. Generally my school was quite tame and peaceful, there wasn't ever anything dramatic or shocking occurring.

That's really interesting, for me. How does a catholic school differ from a regular school? Also, what's it like going to an all girls school, does it feel more relaxed and comfortable or the opposite? (I'm actually really interested, all schools are the same, here)

Well, obviously it's hard to directly answer that question because I can only answer from my experiences. Catholic school is depicted to be this awful, awful thing. It's really not. In Ireland most of the time the 'good' schools, at least the top performing ones, tend to be catholic and private. Religion was never shoved down my throat, and I never had a nun teach me, although there was one (and only one) that still taught in the school. The ethos of the school was strongly based on the order that it belonged too, and so the schools ethos was based around fides, spes, caritas (faith, hope, charity). We did a LOT of charity work... But free discussion was encouraged in the school, my religion classes in my senior years were based around controverisal topics, we were allowed discuss things like contraception, divorce, gay rights, premartial sex, new scientific developments, moral arguments like cloning, stem cell research, etc. We were encouraged to really develop our own opinions on those. We had speakers in from human trafficking organisations, organisations helping prostitutes, etc.

We did have regular things like masses, etc, though, especially around holy celebrations or coming up to our exams. We always had an opening mass for the school year, christmas masses etc, and a monk who worked closely with the school did most of those. But even during those times, the school did try to encourage integration with pupils of the school who weren't catholic. I always thought personally that that was quite a beautiful thing.

Basically, I think the notion and cliché that catholic school is very one dimensional and stunts free thought is completely outdated - of course I understand I could have just been very lucky.

About the single sex issue though, that's a whole other thing. I think in many ways I would prefer to be in a single sex school until I was about 16. Before that, most guys ARE completely immature and childish, after that they're probably a little more tolerable and easier to be friends with. I think the problem with my school was that after six years, things are obviously going to get rough with 70 girls being around each other 5 days a week. Fights that happened when someone was 13, some of those grudges were kept until we left at graduation. Before, say, fifth year though (I would've been about 17), I would've said I loved my school and everyone in it. I suppose. I generally do get on as well with guys as I do with girls, but I dunno about going to school with them :P

I'm so jealous of all the people that get to go to cool places with their schools. It's my last year and the most special trip we're making is to the amusement park 20 km away -__- Your school sounds really fancy

Well, I mean, due to it being a private school most of the people who went were fairly well off, yes. But to me it was very much just a normal school and sometimes they would do such cheap-skate things (like fucking refusing to ever turn on the heating in a massive old school). But we were very lucky, the school itself was set on massive grounds, we had our own tennis and badmington courts, basketball courts both indoors and outdoors, 3 different hockey pitches, a gymnasium, etc. Plus we were literally ON the grounds of the largest urban park in all of Europe, so we frequently used that too.

They did generally do it so that in each 'year' you had a different trip though, and generally you tended to go away to more foreign countries once you were in your senior cycle, most people would be 16 then and a little more mature.
