As a film enthusiast, I enjoy watching films both new and old. So... I want to start up a film review "team" on EC to do monthly (or weekly, but that sounds like a pipe dream) reviews on new releases and old classics. If nobody wants to be part of the team I'll do it by myself, but it would be nice to share the workload (if you call watching a film then giving your opinion of it work) with others.

This will begin in November, I will be reviewing the newest James Bond film. If you're interested, I'll sign you up and you will be given a film to review, of which you will have around 14 days to complete a review of it. If you don't like it, tough, watch it anyway and be open-minded, I don't care about your personal preferences! Yay! smile.gif

Current film-review team:

Steve - Gangster Squad (January 11th 2013)
Rellik San - Flight (November 2nd, 2012)
Mindy Simmons - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 14, 2012)
Acheron. - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (November 16, 2012)
Ashin - Argo (October 12th 2012)

I'll basically be giving out new-releases for you all to review, but if you want to re-watch an old film or just watch a renowned one you haven't had chance to watch yet you can always review that too (I'll still expect a review of a new release though!) The current funding for the team is £0.00 so you will have to buy the tickets yourself. At most it's just one expense per month, so I'm not asking a fortune on your behalf. Hell, you can torrent it if you really wanted to. I also expect the reviews to be of some standard too, I don't mind if your review is objective or completely personal as long as it's informative too.

I'm not looking for "I might be interested..." and then finding you not follow through because you'd be inconveniencing anyone who is genuinely interested. I would prefer a HAHAHAHA NO over a "maybe, I'd be up for this..." I don't mean to deter you, but this doesn't require much commitment.

Yeah I'm deffo down for this.

I would love specialising in B-Movie drok.

You know it wouldn't be impossible for us to do crossover reviews, living fairly close to each other.

Just one thing, I assume if a film we're assigned isn't playing near us, we're free to review something else so long as we put out content?

Sure, I mean if it's entirely out of your hands I can understand that. I wasn't planning on assigning any underground hipster-esque films though so it's unlikely that will be an issue. Unless, of course, you live in a place that has no cinema ..

I've got a few places, I'm in easy reach of about 2 mainstream cinema's and an indie one, but obviously as with 4 Lions, some films that maybe interesting may not get a general release.

That's true, I had to get Four Lions on DVD before I could actually watch it. I'm surprised Chris Morris didn't actually advertise his film and make it more mainstream, it was hilarious as fuck

In fact a perfect example is the film Super... with a cast starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon and Liv Taylor, it showed in one cinema in London for one day.

What about other areas for reviews, like video games, books, etc.?

Those can be set up in the appropriate sections, but I'm going to start off with just films because they take at most 2.5 hours to watch and anyone with an opinion can get involved. If this goes well, sure.

I've been kind of hesitant to commit to this, what with finances being an issue. Then it kind of occurred to me that I should just go on the cheap movie nights and the issue is no longer an issue. I can spare $4 once a month.

I'm definitely in.

If we're going to be doing new releases, and it's only once a month, I'm in. :)

Okay I chose the films for you guys, don't let me down. The review doesn't have to be very long, but it does need to include a rating out of a percentage. I think I picked a wide span of genres here, appealing to a variety of target audience so that we can get more coverage of the film industry. None of these films have been released yet so you will have time to prepare. Mindy your release date is the furthest away so you have less to worry about at the moment and Acheron. yours comes second. I picked the films specifically but the person assigned to the film was completely random, so you know I'm not picking favourites. (except for my own, but the film I review after the bond film will be assigned at random like everyone else's) You may not like your selection, but that only gives you the opportunity to rip the film a new one, right?

If anyone else wants to join up, I have 3 films left I want reviewing this year that seem interesting. On another note, until late October, none of these films will be out yet so if anyone is eager to write a review, I do have a list of already released films that I think would make for a decent review:
Taken 2
The Expendables 2
Resident Evil: Retribution
Paranormal Activity 4 (Soon to be released, 19th October)

I would also, although it's been out for a while now, like to add; Paranorman and Frankenweenie to the review list for people looking to start now. Assuming Steve approves.

Although I'm surprised I didn't get lumped with Twilight and more than a little thankful to be honest. :D

Why did I think I would get lumped in with Twilight?

Yeah, I get Twilight and Mindy gets the Hobbit which she is dying to see when it's released. :D

No problem though. This might be kinda interesting. :)

If we can keep this up until next year, who fancies a mega four way cross over Man of Steel review?

We'll see.. and yeah Rellik that sounds like a spiffing idea, any nationwide film that's been released at the end half of this year is fair game as an optional film review.

Of the four films chosen, I've been given the only one I intended to see right as it was released anyway. I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Hey Movie Baws. Flight doesn't recieve a UK release until Febuary 2013... gimme something else to review because if I'm reviewing it, I wanna support it and rather wouldn't torrent it.
