Okay so I have some big questions to ask the older members of ec., I didn't think I would ever use this forum.
I used to work in electronic retail for 3 years for the first 2 I had great hours and hoped to get a full time job there the last one I was on 8 hours a week only So i started searching for another job I got one, and just after i left about 3 people were made redunant so that job was planning to make reduncies and was why I had very little hours and everyone seemed to be scaled back to there minimum hours.
So I have nothing bad to say about the first one.
My next job was working with animals and bathing and drying dogs I really loved it, they moved me to a dog day care area and i was in charge with looking after and playing with the dogs taking them for walks etc, the dogs loved me
One time when i was talking with my manager she started talking about all the people she fired, I thought it was abit weird that she had fired so many people when the place had only been open about 1-2 years but it did not set off any alarm bells to me as a felt i got on great with my manager at the time, One day she told me to come into the lunch room to have a chat she gave me a written warning saying things like the dogs were afraid of me.
In New Zealand law everything about that was illegal what she did
She had to give me notice that she was going to give me a written warning so that I could have a support person there if i wanted, she gave me no notice what so ever.
She did not stick to any facts the dogs are not afraid of me they loved to see me and the owner of one of them talked to me after I was no longer working there and agreed with me that the dogs loved me.
I have worked with the spca for years as a voluntare.
So after she gave me my written warning 3 days later she rang me on the phone at home telling me to come into work that it was urgent that my job description had been written up the wrong way when i got there i was told that because i was dog dependent
That they guy who owned it said my job description should say casual on it, that my job contract was illegal because it was written up wrong.
I was told that if i did not sign it that day I would no longer have a job, And my manager told me that nothing will change if i sign it except i would go up $1.10 and I could go on holiday when i wanted.
(This was a sunday I had no chance of getting legal advice)
she promised me that they would still call me when there was dogs,
for 4 weeks after this I show up in some of the mornings to see if theres any work
and she says theres none, I also Speak to her manager the guy running the place at the time not the owner thats someone who owns quite a few places, Because i wanted to help make the place more busy And i suggested i could do i broucher drop for free to help advertise the place he said that was a great idea and that he would make some brouchers.
anyways 2 weeks after this written warning and not getting any work I come in one morning and my manager races to the back and starts talking to this new person whos quite abit younger whos in uniform (they have youth wages in nz) (I think my manager thought i did not see she was talking to someone in the back in my area), anyways this new employer disapears into no wear .
My manager comes running back Nope no work today sorry we will ring you when theres more it saves you coming in, Obviously this new girl was fired preety fast because 2 weeks later theres 2 new people there one they call there (new retail person)
I walk into to take a look at my area when i know there all going to be working,I suspect they have hired someone new and are just not ever going to ring me again,
they have done the whole place up and improved on it i see 2 new people there ..
I ask the guys wife who works there whys there a new person in my area and she says that the person is dog trainer from another business..
3 days later Im sent a reduncy letter by the guy
I call a no win no fees lawyer and the there response is that the new lady working there is there new retail person and that i was no way capable of doing retail there.
I do this
because i Beleive with certainty i could win it, because my mom talked to someone who used to work there who has names of people who have gone through the same crap i have, this person gives my name and phone number on, these people never call me because in my opionion People dont want to get involved unless its there life...
i wait in hope for these people to ring but nothing happens the guy leaves and she becomes in charge, because of nz law I could not even take them to court if i wanted to because its had a change of management, even though I know its obviously management
behaviour to treat there staff like this and she was just as much of a back stabber as he was.
( I didn't go any further because i was waiting and hoping one of the past employers who went through the same shit would ring, I was not going to get myself into something like a employment dispute in the courts and possibly lose because if i did lose that could really really hurt my chances of getting jobs in the future)
Now my question is when i apply for jobs now at job interviews they ask about my previous employment
I left a job to go to another one if i tell them which job i went to they ask if its okay to speak to someone whos a manager
from my last job..
I have tried to bypass this by just mentioning the electronic retailer that i worked for and not the other one but then they say stuff like thats quite a gap... why did you leave?
my reply because i was not getting enough hours and just after i left 3 people were made redundant, so i guess they didn't really have the hours to give me.
( oh by the way I have heard they have hired someone new AGAIN If i find out they do this to that person i will be helping that person in court. )
