Kassija looked up at the boy whom had helped her out of the van and smiled slightly, she wanted to ask his name, and to thank him, instead she just gave him a small hug and hoped he'd understand.

Tatsuya watched them get the baby out and tried pulling on the bars to get the other people out but they seemed sealed shut.

Kaya could feel the other people pulling and pushing on the bars. She didn't know if the bars would come off, but just in case they did, she got up and backed away. She heard the baby cry again, behind her this time. Confused she turned around. Wasn't the baby supposed to be in the van? How did they get it out, when the bars were still closed? She was about to make her way over to the sound of the baby when something else alarmed her. She could hear a couple of men argueing about something. She couldn't make out what the argument was about, but that wasn't what had alarmed her. It had been the tone with which the men were talking. It was a scared one and it didn't make her feel comfortable at all.

Lola helped pry at the door but it just wouldn't budge. "This isn't working !" She said angrily kickin the door.
Katana nodded as the boy said the android didn't look right and when he saw the smoke and sparks he grabbed Harkots collar and pulled him back and also grabbed the boy and slung him over his own shoulder. "EVERYONE OUT OF THE WAY!!"ITS GONNA BLOW!!" Katana yelled as the fizzing from the android grew louder.
As Harkot was pulled away from the van his eye caught on Kaya and he quickly pulled out of Katana's arms and ran for her.
"Kaya I'm coming!" He yelled and then picked her up and ran with her to safty.
Jess heard the commotion about the android and grabbed as many people as she could and pulled them back away from the van, one of them beig Lola.

Shou didn't complain when he was carried out of the van. He had never been very good at running, and doubted whether he could have got away in time. But he closed his eyes, wishing there was some way to block out the screaming from inside the van. They were all going to die. 

Harley ran as fast as she could, sheltering the screaming baby as best as she could. But she stopped when she noticed Jack running back towards the van. "Hey moron, it's going to blow!" she shouted incredulously. 

"Then keep running," Jack shouted back. He was clutching a long, thin piece of metal, and wearing a determined look on his face. He pushed the metal between the bars of the van, and attempted to pry it open. But it was no use. By now the smoke was pouring from the front, and the people trapped inside the cage were beginning to cough. The sparks were growing brighter, and noisier, and Jack gave one last, urgent pull on the door, before shaking his head apologetically, and turning to run away to safety. 

Rowan smiled when Kassija hugged him, deciding that he wanted to protect her. He didn't usually feel a need to keep people safe, but he guessed the situation called for it this time. He placed one hand on her shoulder, and was about to reassure her, when the shouting began. 

He span around to see people running for their lives, and the people trapped inside the van screaming for theirs. He took one step sideways and held out his arms to shield Kassija from the inevitable blast, praying that his brother would get out of the way in time. Somehow he made it, just as the van exploded in a burst of fire and flying debris. 

The sound...the screaming...was horrifying.

Tatsuya ran away from the cage in a scramble of people, he didn't want to be near the thing when it blew up. He felt awful for not being able to save the babies mother.

Kassija looked up at Rowan and saw the concerned look on his face and then she heard shouting and began to panic then the explosion, and the cries of people who'd been trapped. Kassija was scared but something about having Rowan there was comforting. She clung to him like a scared child.

Rowan guided Kassija over to where Harley was sat, on the remains of a wheel sticking out of the ground, and raised his eyebrows at her. 

"What?" Harley grumbled, rocking the baby awkwardly. "Shut up and take this thing." 

Shaking his head, Rowan took the baby, holding him more comfortably than his sister. He turned to Kassija, the concern returning to his face. "Are you with anyone?" he asked, already knowing the answer. If she was, they would have helped her out of the van themselves. "If you're not, you can stay with us." 

The sound of metal hitting the ground made the baby jump and begin to cry once more, and Jack approached them, wiping dirt from his clothes as he sat down next to Harley. "If those idiots had thought to move the android then maybe we would have had more time," he said bitterly. 

"Jack, you woke the baby!" Rowan whispered disapprovingly, rocking from side to side like an expert. "Shush." 

Jack looked up at him, then at the baby, and then at Kassija. "Since when did we become babysitters?" he demanded, probably a little louder than necessary. "I thought we promised to look out for ourselves. Where did these two come from?"

Lola sat on the ground near a burning bunch of ruble and probably bodies. She shivered at the thought. Slowly she stood and walked to where the people with the baby were. "Is it ok?" She asked, not caring that she had just interrupted a fight.
Katana and Harkot stood back near the tree line with Kaya and Shou. Katana looked at Shou a small look of concern in his eyes. "Are you ok?..." He asked softly putting his hand on Shou's shoulder.
Jess was standing just behind the tree line leaning against a tree her breathing heavy. Suddenly she ward something, it was coming from further in the woods. She thought it was nothing but jumped when the sound got louder, it sounded like someone moving, breathing. Someone was close by, watching her.

Tatsuya watched from a distance, watching as the people, fussed over the orphaned infant. There was enough people over there, he surveyed the area and wonderred what they would do for shelter.

Kassija smiled slightly but it quickly faded as the new guy said they weren't supposed to be babysitting. So that's how they saw her, as helpless as the baby that was now crying. She looked at Rowan as though to apologize and left the group by themselves and headed towards the treeline.

After she had been safely set back on the ground at a good distance from the van, Kaya could hear the van blow. There were so many sounds, but the screams of the trapped people were the worst. Even at such a distance from the van, everything smelled like fire. Melting metal, burning flesh. She tried not to let it overwhelm her, and started thinking about what they were going to do next. They had to find shelter, and food. But first, if they were going to survive, they had to find water. "Harkot?" she asked him, trying to determine where he was. "We need to move. If we want to survive, we're gonna need to find water first."

Harkot heard Kaya and nodded keeping his gaze on the ground, he sighed and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder then said softly, " your pretty smart for a girl..." His voice was dripping with sarcasm, an he hoped she got it. Quickly he got up and helped Kaya to her feet. Katana and shou fall owed their lead. They all walked overto an over turned van, Harkot walking with Kaya slowly helping her keep her footing. When then got there Harkot climbed on top of an overturned van and shouted,
"Hey everyone listen! We can't stay here, this place is no safe. We need to find clean water and shealter!"

"Jack, you idiot!" Rowan hissed, trying to keep his voice quiet, as the baby was drifting off to sleep once more. "We're not babysitting. We need as many people as possible if we're going to survive...I know what we said, but now we're here, it's probably best if we stayed with everyone else. Ok? Now I'm going to have to go after her, and you two are going to look after this baby. Got that?" 

Jack looked at the baby as though he might explode as violently as the van, and took a subtle step back, and Harley gave Rowan a look that said 'absolutely not!' 

Sighing, Rowan turned when a new girl joined them. "Here, hold this a moment," he said in response to her question, and hurried after Kassija. 

"I think you have to hold his head or they sprout wings, or something," Jack said indifferently, kicking his heels into the ground and averting his eyes from Lola, in case she decided to hand the baby back over. 

 

Shou nodded and gave Katana a bright smile. "Yes," he said, holding one hand over his nose against the smell of burning flesh, oil and metal. 

He followed the three of them, deciding it was best to stay close to people who had already proven themselves trustworthy. 

Most of the people turned to listen with interest, their own fear and uncertainty clear on their faces, but others looked reluctant to follow orders. Some people preferred to be leaders, even if it meant the group would fall apart arguing over it. 

 

The shadow emerged from deep within the forest, gaining speed as something different came into view. It appeared to be another person, but one who didn't smell of sunlight. It was one of those who appeared in that spot every now and then, and, as he hid behind a tree, only feet away from Jess, he realized there were many more of them.

Lola looked at the baby a confused look plastered onto her face but it was completely whipped away and replaced by one of disbelief when the boy said if she didn't hold up the baby's head it would grow wings. "Are you kidding!-..." She began but stopped quickly when the baby stared in it's sleep. She sighed when it calmed down again then continued, much quieter this time, "Really, wings? Wings? Good lord I hope you never have children..." When she heard Harkot say they needed to find water she nodded to herself in agreement, they had been sent with nothing but the cloths on their backs.
Jess could feel something near by, "H-hello?... Is anyone there?..." She called softly. Not hearing a reply she sighed and then slowly turned and rejoined the group, but not before seeing a pair of big eyes staring straight at her from the bushed . Is was to big to be an animal, she waved a little then quickly turned and rejoined the group.
Harkot had finished his speech and was now climbing down, he had told everyone to gather as much supplies as they could carry and fallow him. Some did as he said and some did not, these were the one obviously going out on their own.
Jess slowly started gathering pieces of sharp metal and putting them in a make shift back pack, they could make weapons out of them. All the while she kept an eye on the woods, still feeling like they were being watched.
Lola grabbed as much cloth as she could from the empty vans and began to make a little carrier for the baby so she could hold it on her back, it chest and still be if some help carrying supplies.

Kaya heard Harkot finish his speech and she thought about what kind of supplies she could gather. Suddenly she realized that she could feel she was standing in shadow. She hoped it would be trees, so she carefully felt around until her hand landed on a tree. She dropped to her heels, feeling on the ground to see if there was scattered wood. She started gathering as much wood as she could, knowing they would need a fire later on. She had no idea how far the tree line went and no idea which direction they would go. While she was busy, for a short moment she trembled, like a shadow had passed over her. She stopped gathering and strained her ears. She heard nothing.

Harkot was gathering things they could use to carry water in and keeping a close eye on Kaya, he had decided he was going to protect her. She was very smart an kind, he liked her.
When he noticed her stop gathering wood he slowly walked over to her, "is everything ok?" He asked kneeling and putting a hand on her shoulder.
Jess could feel the shadow close by, it was watching them, she glanced at the woods and saw a little bit movement and smiled shaking her head. She walked over to the tree line and whispered, "Your not very good at hiding.."

Other: Gem and Tim were born on the surface, into a small 'civilization' of criminals. In the small village they built up, they came up with the custom of not naming their own children. A person would get their name from the first person they hunted down themselves to eat. 

 

The person in the shadows hovered over the girl who apparently hadn't realized he was there, and reached out one hand. But when another approached, he backed away again into the shadows to wait, eyes narrowed, ready to strike when they lowered their guard. 

The other slunk backwards into the trees, deciding to regroup and capture as many of them as possible. But before he could, he heard a whisper very close to his ear. Startled and angry, he grabbed the girl who had whispered and dragged her into the shade of the trees, one hand clamped over her mouth, and a knife pointing at her chest.

Jess gasped a little when she was grabbed an pulled into the trees. She coul taste blood, and knew it wasn't hers, it was on the boys hand, she looked him straight in the eye and then to his utter surprise smiled under his hand. Then suddenly she poked him slightly with the sharp tip of a piece glass she had picked up. They were at a stand still, she could kill him just as easily as he could kill her, and if she was going down she would be damned if she don't take at least him with her straight to hell. Slowly she reached up with her other hand and pulled his down away from her mouth and whispered, "Well, don't you play a lovely game of cat and mouse. But I can't help but wonder; are you the cat.." With that she twisted the glass a little into his chest just barely breaking the skin, she leaned forward a little not even flinching as his knife did the same to her an whispered in his ear; "Or am I?..."

Kaya smiled when she felt Harkot's hand and heard his comforting words. It was nice to have someone care about her for once. Even if it wouldn't last. She was about to answer when a bit of commotion somewhere behind her caught her attention. She got up, shaking Harkot's hand off and turned towards the sound. "What's happening over there?" she asked to no one in particular, even though she was pretty sure that no one but Harkot could hear her. Instead of waiting for an answer she moved forward, but then suddenly stopped again, unsure of what she would do when she got there. She wasn't even sure what exactly was going on. She could hear someone coming up next to her, and without thinking whether it would be friend or foe, she said, "we should go help them."

Jack shrugged. "Or breathe fire, whatever," he said indifferently. "And it doesn't look like I'll ever get to have children now, even if I wanted to." He grumbled the last part under his breath, glaring in the direction Harkot had gone. Who put him in charge? He was one of the idiots who hadn't thought to move the android. They wouldn't have even been lumped with the baby if they'd been able to rescue his mother from the van. 

"I'm going to go look for a place we can set up camp," he said eventually, after a moment of silence, and left Lola and Harley to look after the baby. 

Harley stood and began to scavenge as many pieces of scrap metal that might prove 'useful' as she could. "You seem like a natural," she commented to Lola. "But I'm guessing you're not?" 

 

Rowan finally managed to catch up with Kassija, and put one hand on her shoulder. "Wait," he said softly. "I completely understand if you don't want to be anywhere near my moronic brother, but please don't leave the group. We don't know what's out there, yet." 

 

Tim mirrored the girl's actions, twisting his knife into her until the tip had torn through her shirt. But then he lowered it slowly, thoughtfully. 

"It might be a shame," he said slowly. "To kill one who can speak so calmly in this situation." He released her completely, ignoring the glass that was still cutting into him. "We can both be cats, if you're willing to betray the mice." He inclined his head through the trees, towards the others. 

 

Watching the two like a hawk, Gem came to the conclusion that the girl's vision was impaired. He couldn't tell by how much though. He leaned forwards slightly, keeping out of Harkot's sight, and suddenly he was faced with the girl again. This time she had crept away from Harkot, and was staring right through him. 

Cautiously, Gem glanced through the trees at Harkot once more, before gripping Kaya's wrist, and pulling her away slightly off course. These trees were old, and wide, with roots thick with shrubbery. Once someone was in the forest, it was often hard to find them if they weren't moving in a straight line. 

"It's ok," he whispered to her, taking advantage of her lack of sight. "I just saved you. That man was covered in blood, and I don't remember seeing him on the way here. He's been leading you away from the group this entire time. Stay with me, I'll take you back to the others. But keep quiet or he'll find us."

Harkot had turned his head for a moment but when he looked back toward Kaya she was gone. Quickly he went into action. He jumped into the forest and climbed up a tree to get a better view. He looked closely at the forest floor. Then he saw a streak of red and quickly jumped from the tree and ran after it. Quickly he came upon Kaya and she was being lead by a boy, covered in blood and a wild look in his eye. Harkot quickly picked up a small stone and threw it straight for the boys head. It hit hard and the boy went down, not knocked out just confused. Quickly Harkot grabbed Kaya and jumped into a tree,
"Kaya are you ok? He didn't hurt you did he?" Harkot asked checking her over for and wounds.

Lola looked up at Harley and sighed. She nodded her head slightly at Harley's question then rocked the baby back and fourth gently.

Jess smiled and leaned against the tree that was behind her. "So the man eaters like striking deals with pretty young lady's?" She reached up and slowly wiped some of the blood from the boys cheek.

Kassija looked at Rowan to tell him she understood what he was saying. But she didn't want them to think she was a baby. She was quite capable of looking after herself and had done for a while before she'd been sent up here.

Tatsuya had been watching everything from afar, and had gathered a few bits of things he'd seen of interest on his way around the small area they had inhabited for the time being. It was a shame they didn't have any tools because they could have made shelter from the old vans,the ones that weren't damaged anyway.
